  • weird misfire

i just installed longtubes and finished tuesday. i just got home and ran the scan tool on my car and cylinder 3 and 6 are misfiring like crazy at idle but not under load. which doesnt make sense to me because every time i had a misfire it was under load not at idle. plug wires are fine checked them. plugs look good and everything is where it needs to be on the opti. im just confused as to what could be the problem and why it only misfires under idle?

    any help is greatly appreciated

I would double check and make sure the wires are fully connected to the plugs.

what kind of wires do u have, cause sometimes you'll have defective wires, my buddy had taylor 10.2 mm on his and 1 of his wires were faulty

just got out of the garage. 2 diffrent wires both got signal threw them. 3 dif plugs. im getting spark theres no doubt about that. im getting signal to the injector and the injector is pulsing. i dont get it. im at a loss.

i went to full race headers so all my emissions got deleted and its running untuned, i didnt think it would make a diffrence but if someone has opposite to say id love to hear it. thanks for the help guys.

they are ac delco 7mm wires. like i said tho, im getting spark for sure. im 100% on that. im getting signal to the injector and the injector is pulsing, it may be clogged im in no mood to pull it tho at the moment, but it ran fine before the header swap.

going to let it sit for the night see if i or you can come up with anything lol

what a nights sleep does for the brain. my rocker arm may be adjusted to tight causing the valve to float a bit and cause a misfire. be back in a few to see if it works out.

Damn it, you beat me to it, that was going to be my response, lash is to tight. So should your lash be set at 0 plus a quater turn...................................or .028, lol. Eric L

i think i have mine set at 0 plus 1/3 turn. 1/4 turn was kinda noisey on mine.

misfire in 3 is totally gone but i got a misfire in 5 and 6 very slight.

i was hoping once i fixed 3 it would stop affecting 6. it greatly reduced it and now 5 is showing up. i relashed all the valves i think they may be plug or wire related misfires

FWIW Fred, IIRC you can ohm a plug wire and check the resistance. I think they are suppose to be in the 250 range, but its been YEARS since ive played with it. Eric L
