Almost reminds me of the supercharger me and a buddy were trying to develop in college. More for S&G, but it never really left the ground off paper. It used an A/C clutch to engage and "pull" the screws into position to start packing the cylinders. I had the idea running around after I had seen "My Science Project". The idea of a SC that you could turn on and off at any time? Well, at the time, it was too cool of an idea. I think what killed it was the machining cost at the very beginning.
I kind of like the idea though. If it lasts through the test & tune, I'd probably give it a try with the 'Bird.sigpic
Why the Hell do I have to press 1 for english?!

The guy I had do a lot of the work on my Camaro had that setup in his Ranger. Turned on and off via switch, it was a centrifugal with an AC clutch.Originally posted by steddy View PostIt used an A/C clutch to engage and "pull" the screws into position to start packing the cylinders. And BTW, that movie rocks.
...at first I thought this topic was about one of those eBay ones.

Which is why it's feasible, only in theory, for very small displacement motors.Originally posted by DanO View Posthas anyone done the math to figure out how much energy is required to drive a boost system?
I'll tell you one thing... 100 amps at 12v isnt enough to do much..
We've probably got an easy decade before concepts are even on the drawing board for even moderate V6 displacements.Originally posted by Redd8407I WANT NOISE! SPEED! I'm so glad that movie hasn't been forgotten and the ESC I was working with (mainly because this was like back in '90) was a 6-71. I'm actually glad that someone came up with the idea and made it work. Wish I would've started with something like that. I'd like to see some vids, if any exist.Originally posted by MP81 View PostThe guy I had do a lot of the work on my Camaro had that setup in his Ranger. I thought I had seen a video of a 5th gen. with a roots blower on it around that when it was at low rpm the pulley on the supercharger wasn't spinning, but when he got on it it seemed to engage. That's probably why they can get so good of gas mileage with the supercharger, until they hit it. But how would that work when it isn't spinning? Does the air just pass over the screws?
Used to own a Firebird.

But this really isn't anything new...
Mad Max has been doing it for 40 years...
