  • Help! I'm frustrated

Ok this drives me nuts when working on Brians car/engine. When we pulled engine everthing seemed like Metric bolts. Now that we are on engine there seems to be a mix of metric and SAE bolts. I know some are very close but? Is there and sort or rule or logic here?

when i did my cam swap it was a mixture of metric and sae, its just the stupid way it is, gotta bite the bullet and just go grab a diffrent wrench or socket. but yes very frustrating at times.

Howdy Mr. Meissen! Welcome to the site. I did not realize the engine would be mixed SAE and Metric. I would think everything else would be before the motor components.

          Yup, it's a mutt

          You will use:
          10mm - 15mm & 3/8 - 5/8 sockets & open-end wrenches

The bolts that hold the motor in are 18mm I believe.

                It's GM...get used to it.

The door ground effects on my IROC had a 10mm nut, while the quarter ground effects used a 5/32"!!!

GM is famous for mixing and matching. Too bad they're no Torx.

Very simple explanation for it really...it's legacy data that filters through from old designs.....you still had that on the LT1 4th gens...however, you did not have it on the LS1 4th gens because by the time the LS1 came through design GM had gotten their act together and switched over to using all metric.
