Ok this drives me nuts when working on Brians car/engine. When we pulled engine everthing seemed like Metric bolts. Now that we are on engine there seems to be a mix of metric and SAE bolts. I know some are very close but? Is there and sort or rule or logic here?

Yup, it's a mutt
You will use:
10mm - 15mm & 3/8 - 5/8 sockets & open-end wrenches
The bolts that hold the motor in are 18mm I believe.

Very simple explanation for it really...it's legacy data that filters through from old designs.....you still had that on the LT1 4th gens...however, you did not have it on the LS1 4th gens because by the time the LS1 came through design GM had gotten their act together and switched over to using all metric.sigpicTurbo Charged LS1/T56
