  • First Go with SeaFoam

So, I'm getting ready to do the SeaFoam treatment to my car. . . Going to perform an all-out assault on the engine's carbon deposits in a few minutes here, just waiting for the engine to cool down before I get started adding it to the oil and brake booster. After that, I'm taking a nice, relaxing, 100-mile "Spirited Drive" around Lenawee, Monroe, Washtenaw, and Wayne counties. After that, I'll be doing an oil/filter change with Pennzoil Full Synthetic. Should do some good for the engine, I'm hoping to have a little bit of fun romping on it out on the "Scenic Route" that my sister and I are taking tonight.

So, wish me luck! I just hope that the seafoam doesn't have any undesireable side effects on the engine at all, and I'm hoping the synthetic oil lives up to my expectations. I have run it before, it's been running Mobil 1 for a year or so, but I know the previous owner slacked off a bit about changing the oil when he should have. Hopefully I won't run into any problems.

I'll post up my results after all is done!

I would get some video, but I have no way of recording video. My DSLR doesn't do video. My mom's camera does, I think. I'll try to borrow it for the night. . . I sure feel sorry for anyone cruising behind me when I start to wail on the throttle. . . . lol

You can run seafoam in your gas?, Do you just put it in your tank with a full tank?
          what did it do?

Yeah, the instructions say to run a full can (1 pint) of SeaFoam with a full tank of gas (instructions I found on LS1tech.com suggest 91+ octane fuel). I haven't finished that tank yet, I just filled up with premium (93 octane) and poured the can in, I've only driven about 2 miles on it so far, just to mix it in with the gas, and I didn't notice anything different. I'm sure it will change once I add it to the oil and through the brake booster hose. . .

Check out this link to see how it's recommended that we do it to LS1 F-Bodies, but these instructions carry over to most other F-Bodies.

seafoam is good stuff, I did my firebird, my friends lt1 bird, and another friends GTP, and none really smoked all that much, only a little bit upon startup, but on the spirited drive not much at all, we didnt use the deep creep though.. maybe that has more effect?

That Seafoam worked pretty well on my Camaro. Nice amount of smoke.

Well, I decided to just take it out for like 50-60 miles before changing the oil. . . I just got back, didn't really notice much of a difference in performance, but the gas mileage seems to be doing well, and throttle response is already improved. No smoke yet, I'm going out right now to put the rest in the brake booster, couldn't get mom's camera to work, so sorry, but no vids. Too dark anyway. I'll be changing the oil after that's done, then I'm taking it out for that 'spirited drive', and I'll post my first impressions up after class tomorrow!

spirited drive is supposed to happen while the seafoam is in there.

Follow the directions on Tech very carefully. The 1st time I did it I didn't really let the car sit as long as they said I should and I didn't let it idle as long as they said to either and the car really didn't smoke that much. The second time I let it sit for a long time(prob even longer than they say) and when I pulled onto the road and floored it I couldn't see a single thing behind me because there was so much smoke. Even when I turned around about a mile down the road and came back there was still a lot of smoke lingering.

does the smoke mean your cleaning out the carbons?

and someone said they didnt really dig into it or dig it out..what the hell is that.

link us to the tutorial you "noob"
