  • Running hot

my friend has a 91 rs camaro with a 383 stroker and a 3 speed auto.. x race car but mainly a show cruiser now...seems to run pretty hot...has to avoid traffic. put a 180 stat in and some super coolant still havin prob. can he run with out a stat ? we will prob. get some new better fans but we were just wondering if he can just remove stat..

Will run hotter without one. Can use a restrictor though . Is the lip on the bottom of the fascia?
How is the engine tune up? Lean? Timing?

I am running without a t stat and although I haven't driven the car I have let it run for a long time. I did install a restrictor plate tho. Tell him to get LS1 fans and to run the painless wiring kit for the fans. It'll run cool then.

            Single or dual fan setup?

I'm well over 400 crank hp on a stock cooling setup. No problem staying under 200.

What is the accessory drive on it? Serpentine setups are reverse rotation water pumps and v belts are standard. Mix the two and bad things happen...

When I got my vette...I noticed it always ran hot... picked up a 160 thermostat and when swapping found someone had gutted the thermostat that was in there... put the 160 in...a bottle of water wetter and voila... the car is 180 or less non stop.

Does ur friend still have the air dam on the car?

Btw...my vette is a tpi car.
