  • Good bye LT-1....Helloooooo LS-1!

I have had enough! I picked up an ls-1 car today and sold my LT-1. I am installing my LT-1 into a buds bird.
    Then the fun begins.
LS-1 auto into my 94. I will have questions. be prepared.

ok heres one. The instrument panel in my 94 has been upgraded to the 97, which is the same as the one in the donor car. do I need to have anything repined? or can I just slide the connector into the computer and be done?

Heres another. I am thinking about just dropping the cradle on this swap, and sliding the ls cradle up under my 94, this will give me the ls brakes in front. I am wondering about the rear, my axle already has a 3-73 gear in it will the LS brakes and rotors work on the axle?

What about my body module, will I need to remove that? am I going to lose my remote start and alarm?

Anything I need to look out for?

The gauge cluster wiring for 1994 to 1997 style is not the same and you'll have to repin the whole plug. It's tedious, but not too hard.

Yes you can drop the LT1 kframe assembly and install the LS1 kframe assembly.

Be prepared for numerous wiring changes that you'll have to make to convert from 1994 to 1997+. The engine harness plugs are going to be entirely different - off the top of my head I want to say 1994 only has one plug where as '95+ have two plugs so you're going to have to do some fun wiring on that one. There will also be the interior wiring, for example you'll need to convert your interior diagnostic port to OBD2 style and run new wires to the port for the diagnostic serial lines. Your best bet would be to find an LS1 engine, engine bay, and interior harness and switch it all over IMHO unless you're very comfortable with comparing wiring diagrams and soldering

B, I have the whole car. I guess I will just have to move the entire dash and harness over.

The big challenge right now is the air conditioning. D o I transplant my lt compressor onto the ls-1, or is there some bastardized system that I need to invest in?

if you have the whole car then yeah you'll need to do some harness swapping

Here's part my pile-o-parts to do the swap, I'm using a Los engine harness and having the cluster converted. I'll be keeping an eye on this, hopefully I can learn something before I get to mine.

Air conditioning is simple. The lt1 lines work with the ls1 compressor. You just have to bend them a little. Then use all your other lt1 ac stuff as well.

For the rear brakes, you can use the LS1 brakes on the LT1 axle, just have to swap the backing plates and you'll need to swap the parking brake cables as well. That said, I'm not really sure there's a big advantage to going with the LS1 rear brakes. I've had both on my old car and didn't notice a difference in stopping either way.

The LS1 eBrake is drastically improved over the LT1 design. Plus its nice to buy a brake kit(for rotors and pads) instead of doing fronts for LS, rears for LT. Braking wise...same thing.

Good luck finding backing plates though, they dont make an aftermarket version as far as I know.

Cant I just transfer the LS plates to the LT axel?

What about the front control arms are they the same? I may want to just run my lt arms for now until I can dredge up enough funding for some good rotors and pads. My Lt stops way better than this LS in its current condition. Maybe just swap out the spindles? Im not sure on where the changes are

Just so they match front to back. I take it the axel's are the same then, 10 bolts a 10 bolt. I didnt want to give up my 3 73 gearing. Just ordered a new Precision, New Hampton 2800 - 3000 stall. to go with this. I just need to finish transferring my lt over to 94 Formy's Bird. This is a lot of work.
