Mine was a CWC casting which has had issues for being soft. Wish I would have known that when I got it
Also...I read some interesting articles on todays motor oils. Oils that are produced today really don't have the high pressure additives that engines with flat tappets need. The reason being is that major engine manufacturers do not make make flat tappet motors anymore. It's best to run an oil with these additives or buy them and put them in. GM's EOS is one of the better ones I have heard about.sigpicTurbo Charged LS1/T56

That's interesting, nice they just said F*** the older vehicles still on the road. I'll keep that in mind when I do get around to building a motor for my 80 Z28.Originally posted by WMCCjamesMine was a CWC casting which has had issues for being soft. Wish I would have known that when I got it

well when you look at newer motors most are OHC or roller motors so they are more worried about the bearings staying conditioned then they are keeping the wear element away... some of the best oil ive used is the eurpoean blends alot of the new oils did away with zinc and other additives that help with the life of an older motor.. unless its an aftermarket like royal purple or lucas made for high perfomance that have the additives then i try to buy the european blends, alteast they still have the standards that include the additives...Originally posted by Frank The TankTook the restrictor plate off to give the Red Dragon a little more juice. thats a big argument between people using the syn on an older engine.. i always use standard oil till i know its running healthy then switch to syn or syn blend after that... if it does have something wrong... like a bad cam..lol you dont want it to wear out with the raw efficiency that synthetic will give ya ha ha... not sure if it would make it worse or better in that caseOriginally posted by Frank The TankTook the restrictor plate off to give the Red Dragon a little more juice. you can run a car on a "almost" wipped out cam my mech ruined his in the 280z someone ripped the plastic bag covering the carb off and rain got into the intake he never cleaned it out and ran it with water inside it... some how got into the oil too through the breather in the air filter... we poped off the intake only 3 out of the 16 lifters even would turn around "flat tappet" and then half the others didnt seem to move much at all... he drove it another 2 months like that ran like crap but it ran... i guess a 580 lift cam halfway worn out is still good enough.. lolOriginally posted by Frank The TankTook the restrictor plate off to give the Red Dragon a little more juice. I scored a barely used set of Hawks stainless LT's and y-pipe for the conversion!!! Got a killer deal!
