  • LSX swap into 3rd gen

Okay all you LSX gurus. Just picked up a LS block and heads, going to be putting it in my IROC this winter. I am probably going to have the short block freshened up and do a cam swap while I'm at it. Heads will stay stock for now (besides springs). What's the hot ticket for cams in these motors. I hear TSP has some nice grinds. I will have the ability to reflash the PCM so it will be tuned right. Is the LS6 intake worth it or should I look at aftermarket intakes? I want to be able to make some decent HP (around 425-450) because the motor that's being replaced has good power....can't downgrade in the power department:thumbsdo:

Also, anyone know what's involved in converting a LT1 T56 to an LS1 T56? I have the LT1 version in my car right now.....I hear it's just the input shaft?

    Thanks for any input!

Look into LGmotorsports cams they produce great power. As for a ls6 intake unless you get a good deal on it I wouldnt waste the 500 dollors they cost save up and get a F.A.S.T intake imo

What are you going to do about ride height.

LSWon will raise your front a good inch I hear. Going to chop the springs or have new ones custom made?

Cut the springs....been there done that!! I'm still rocking the stock IROC springs from 1985...only cut down some.

Dang. Some people on TGO were telling me if I cut down my WS6 springs the world would collapse in on itself. I cut a half coil outta the fronts and the front still sits too high. Only thing I dont like is the more you cut them the stiffer they are, I guess (this is what I was told).

Yeah, well that's one of the many things that's wrong with TGO. Everybody is a know it all....even without trying things for themselves. Don't get me started....

Anyways, it will work just fine, the springs do get slightly stiffer, but you will hardly notice it.

good buy... good luck!!! Get a naaassssty cam, you wont regret it with the M6!!!!! TSP has some "large" ones! lol

My step dad's second gen camaro springs are cut around 3 in... his springs are stiff as hell!

If you have a linear spring and the spring rate is 100 lb/in, if you cut the spring in half, you will double the spring rate to 200 lb/in it's all a linear ratio if you have a linear spring

I would go with the TSP MS4 and a Fast 90 intake(if you dont have the coin an LS6) than I would spray a 150 shot on it and have fun making 430RWHP N/A and 600+ with the shot ! o and yes it is really worth it for an LS6 or a fast. An LS1 intake will really starve your car of air up top when you are spining that big ole cam to 7K! LS1's are known to suck LOTS or air in. And also while you have the motor out I would use an LS2 timing chain and a ported LS6 oil pump!

on the trans ( rockland standard gear ) can do this for you or D&D in walled lake.

As for the rest of the parts Hawks Thirgen has alot of those swap parts needed for the swap.

I think it's more than an input shaft, bell housing is different by like two bolt holes. I heard it's impossible

I'm looking to getting a 4.6 dual over head cam engine and am going to need a 6 speed, I think with a different bell housing the LT1 trans would bolt right up to what I need. PM me about that trans, might be able to take it off your hands!

Thanks for the tip on the T56 conversion.....I need to look into this alittle more, might just be easier to sell mine and buy an LS1 unit.

Anyone know where I can pick up some of these items:
I need the FEAD system (Front End Accesory Drive) ie, alt, power steering pump and tensioner and idler and any associated fastners

Also, I need a complete intake with rails, TB and hardware.

Going to need a complete wire harness and PCM also.

Need a F-body oil pan, will trade for the corvette one if someone is interested.

Need the coil packs and assoc. wiring/hardware.

I'm beginning to think I should have bought a complete set-up out of a wrecked car.....this might nickle and dime me to death!:thumbsdo:

It might, but you got hook ups from the club most likely.

I know the coil packs alone are a good buck and the front drive assembly too.

All depends on how great of a deal you got on the longblock

I would buy a parts car and do it that way, or else it WILL nickel and dime you to death.

Totaled trans ams are every where with good engines etc. Keep an eye out!

Plus, for us third genners who dont already have all the nice stuff like James, buying a wrecked fourth gen will get you lotsa nice stuff.

PS james did you get a vette motor? is that why you have vette oil pan for trade?
