• Progress from tonight....

I was able to borrow a 4' long solid 3/4" drive socket wrench from my friend Nate who works at Katech. Yes, a socket wrench, not a breaker bar. After several tries and one final jump/push on the wrench I ended up breaking the bolt off inside the snout which was fine... Makes taking the front cover, timing chain and oil pump off much easier.

Overall things appear to be in decent shape, but going to get some opinions on the bearings as I have never done a crank before. Dropping it back in will be the interesting part...

Crank is off to the EDM shop in the morning.

                Pictures from tonight...

Now that this is being resolved, can a mod merge this into my project thread? Thanks!

                • Damn dude! At least it can only get better from here right? Mind if I ask what they are going to charge you to get that bugger out of there? For the sake of curiosity.

I'm curious as all get out on how/why that thing got stuck in there.

                  • He quoted me $100 max over the phone which I think is a great deal compared to a new $700 crank.

                      • when u put a balancer on you need a piece of threaded rod, some hardened washers and a nut. pull the balancer almost all the way down, remove the threaded rod, take your OLD crank bolt, use it to seat the balancer, then remove theold bolt and torque your new bolt. or heat the balancer to 250 degrees for a half hour and it will go on much easier.

                        • Thanks for the tips Don. Nate offered me his balancer install tool, same one that they use at Katech, so that should help. Ordered all new ARP rod bolts and OEM main cap bolts this morning. Big thanks to Superman09 for helping me order parts at a great price!

                            • So how exactly does this EDM process work? I read a little on lone about it, but am having a hard time visualizing how you use that process to get a broken bolt out without damaging the threads.
