  • they will take a 1/2" socket too. have you tried an air impact on it yet? Its a little late but to install these you need a piece of threaded rod, a few washers and a nut OR you can put the balancer in the oven at about 250 for a while and it will expand and go on much easier. I know I used to have one of the impact drivers but not sure if I still do. you're welcome to borrow it if I can find it

      • No impact driver. Will kill the thrust bearing
maybe dry ice on the bolt?

Just to be clear... an impact gun is fine, just don't use the impact driver tool mentioned above?

Agreed on the dry ice. Was thinking a compressed CO2 can for cleaning keyboards might do it too. Minor heat on the crank, cool on the bolt?

          • you might post something on ls1tech. I'm sure you're not the first to have this happen. Might get some ideas.

              • Thanks Don. Going to try a few tricks tonight and see what happens.

I would like to line up a "Plan B" as I don't have a ton of time to monkey with this thing. Anyone have a nice stock crankshaft laying around?

                • Drill it out pin the crank? You could always take it to a shop and see what they could do

                  • Well I got the bolt to rock back and forth about 1/4" using an impact. Put the breaker bar on it to see if I could break it free and it seized up again. So I'm letting it soak in more Kano Kroil overnight and will try again tomorrow with the impact.

                    • Yeah it's stuck in there good...

Tried cooling the bolt with liquid nitrogen and hitting it with the impact and still nothing. Anyone have any shops they would recommend that could machine or EDM it out? Going to start calling around tomorrow.

                      • Talked with an EDM shop in Madison heights that can do it. Just need to pull the crank out now. Going to try one last hit with a stronger impact before I do so.

                        • Fingers crossed the impact works... Sucks if you have to disturb the bottom end

No dice on the big impact... Crank pulling party tomorrow night! Going to do new main and rod bolts while I'm in there and take a look at the bearings, might as well do them now if they look suspicious.
