if you do not have a appraisal and with a car company like Haggerty that works with cars like this everyday, IMHO your screwed, I got boned to the tune for 4k when my bronco got totaled, I did not have any of those things and had full coverage, so they gave me the run around and it was horrid. LEARN from this and get your car appraised, use the money to redo it and make SURE you have good insurance next time, its all I can tell you.. Darren knows this stuff pretty well so maybe he will chime in..

yours was low mileage? I find it hard to believe the 97 plain jane v6's sell for 3-5, that might be what dreamers think they can get for them. I sold my 1999 v6 a few years ago when the market was high, and I got MORE than it was worth for $5500, that car had almost all stock parts back on it, MINT condition, chrome wheels premium sound and w68 package... I think what they offered you is about fair, Its just a chance you take when you modify cars, if something gets totalled, you just don't get back the money invested, plain and simple.Originally posted by phoenix_rising View PostI'm not sure. I know I bought comprehensive and that I provided receipts for a lot of the work I had done. The prices they offered would neither restore my car to its prior condition nor replace it with a comparable condition car. Even Ebay prices for a low mileage '97 are between $3000-5000-Derek-

Full coverage only goes by blue book value, so of you only had full coverage on the car then you will only get blue book price in replacement. They dont care if you have a 10K paint job 10k motor build and so on, if you want things like that covered you have to have a agreed upon value policy where your car gets appraised and your show them proof of all your purchases on the car. Take the cash they offered you and get her back on the road
but also shop around for an agreed upon value insurance policy.

Ben a couple of things! 1. make sure when they total it and you buy it back title does not get changed to salvage. 2. We bought Brians car back for 400. of course they take deductible off top first. so its not bad be glad your getting anything out of that freaky mishap.sigpic

Not true, there is loop holes like this in most insurance policies. Because it happened while driving and it was a "accident" on the road he is covered. He did not know this right away until he investigated hie engine further to find out something shot into his engine, I believe he said he ran over something... Therefore the insurance is covering it, or well helping covering it.Originally posted by OIF1VET View PostSeriously? I know on my full coverage policies this is the case, if something was to happen to my car that is deemed a accident, big rock gets shot up and blows a hole in my oil pan or something a long the lines, my cars would be covered as well.sigpic

This is the information I was going off on his original post. Anymore I have no clue about his case.Originally posted by phoenix_rising View PostWith a car this sexy who wouldn't let me on the tracks?
Update:
1. The motor and trans are out of the car.
2. I walked the length of road looking for whatever I hit and found a stone the size of a football that almost appears to be slate or marble. It is possible that it fell off a truck since there are no other stones of this size or variant in the area. It is not smooth like the other rocks, it is jagged and sharp yet heavy and very pale gray in color.
3. I contacted my insurance company today and told them what happened and explained my situation and the lady told me that the damage should be covered under my policy!
4. I am concerned that the insurance company may try to total my car because of the extent of the damage. (Hell even the trans bell housing was cracked)
5. If so I will buy the car back and restore it.
6. I have been conversing with the owner of my body shop and he tells me that he should be able to have the car in by Monday and out 2-3 days after.
7. Shooting for the 4th of July to have the car running and driving again.
Thank you all for your support. It means so much!!! I feel like I am in a whirlwind trying to make sense of things. You kindness is keeping me focused and grounded. Keep it up please!

Wrong. I THOUGHT I Blew up the motor because of the sounds the engine was producing and that is what my friend a tech thought. Then when I got around to jacking the car up and getting under it I found the impact damage including my K-member bent in half, my oil pan crushed like a tin can, a crack in my trans housing dented trans pan and my trans cross member bent.Originally posted by OIF1VET View PostI'm confused... When I found out a friend asked me if I had collision coverage, which I did. So I turned it in for the claim. Completely legitimate. No loop holes, no tricks. However I appreciate your lack of faith...
Can I get a Mod to either clean up this thread or delete it as it has gone way off course.Last edited by phoenix_rising; July 13th, 2010, 06:16 PM.
