  • What to do?

I was hoping to get some input from you guys about this, I know there's pros and cons to each of them but there are so many choices now.

The rear main is leaking on my 86 Trans Am so I need to pull it out to fix it. It has 106k on it so while it's out I either need to freshen it up or swap it. It is a 305 TPI so I was thinking a LSX swap either a LS1 or LQ4 or maybe going old school and doing a 383 or something similiar. I'll keep the 700r4 with the 383 which would need a rebuild also for the new motor.

I was trying to shoot for around 350 rwp if I was doing the swap.

Oh and living in this great metropolis of Fort Gratiot there isn't alot of choices for a good shop to do this so any suggestions on a reputable shop would be greatly appreciated also.

    Thanks

Yeah, if I see an LS1 in a 3rd gen, then I assume that person is on this site It's definitely the way to go over the mundane banality of a typical carbureted setup that you see at car shows.

LS motor for sure, I wouldn't waste time or money on a an old school set-up. LS motors in 3rd gens are becoming very common now, there is alot of support out there for the swap.

depends what you want. performance wise you'll never beat an LS1 setup in the longrun. But old school builds are fun in their own way. Personally Id want an old school car with the old school engine so I vote LSx

I'll throw a vote up for an LSx swap.

But you can never go wrong with old-school carburated performance, either.
