Started on body work today.

Went down to Warren, about 9 mile and Ryan, and got a hood off of an '81 Monte. Hood was in pretty good shape, small amount of surface rust on the underside, and a pair or small dings on the top, but nothing non-fixable. Tied it down to the top of Sam's Mountaineer, dropped it off, went and got supplies and got to work!

Spraying on the coats of gloss black rattle can - kind of a guinea pig to see how our prep work turns out, and if this looks even halfway decent...



It's amazing how much more time it took to prep the underside than the top of the hood, just due to the intricacies, etc...

Were you wetsanding the hood?

What kind of build is he doing? Will we see this thing running this summer?

Yes, we did wetsand. We started doing the bottom: we did 220 all around (80 in the spots where the surface rust caused the metal to start pitting, then 220 when we were done), and then sprayed it off, flipped it over, and just did 220 wet on the top, to have it ready for primer. Then we sprayed it off, and let the tom and bottom air dry a bit. Then we dryed the bottom as best as we could, and started laying down the [high-build] primer, did three light coats, as per the can, and got pretty even coverage, then we did a wet-600 to prep it for the paint.

What kind of build, what do you mean?

Is this just a car to drive around, a 11/12 second car, autocross etc?

Oh, he's going for a cruiser.

It does have all the goodies to handle/go fast if duty calls, though.
