$5,000 to have a 355 rebuilt using USED parts? When I built my 350 into a 355 I used all new parts except for my crankshaft, connecting rods, and my oil pan, and I don't think I spent more than $3,000. I mean sure I didn't build my motor to do 8's, but that just seems high for used parts.

Very much so, for $5k everything should be new but the block and even then you could just get a new one from GM and still build a damn nice motor for $5k.

You can buy a decent crate motor for $5K...with a warranty...

I mentioned $5000 because people were telling me $40,000. I estimated off of a decent set of heads, internals, trans and all the machine shop work.

I want to build a low compression turbo app. motor. That being said, the short block is seized up. Should I not try to get it apart before I take it to a shop to be checked out?

Oh and this is a crate 350 that has been blueprinted.

The $40K was to build an 8 second car...what is that going to be, 800 -1000 hp, depending on how you execute it?

And if so, that's more like $15K for a motor or more.

              TO DO WHAT?

              Race?

              Cruise?

              Show?

              Which one has priority?

              And put it in what?

              F-body?

              Bonneville?

              You need a better plan...say you want a turbo'd SBC in a F-body that will run 8s...good.

Say you want a turbo'd SBC in a 67 Bonny to go cruising with...good.

Say you want a turbo'd SBC in a 67 Bonny to go cruising with and still run 8s...good.

But, good grief, don't go spending ANY money, ANYWHERE, until you have a plan for what you want to do.

Oh, yeah, you're gonna want to take it apart...frankly, you could easily spend more money fixing it than it's worth...
