  • What's this motor worth?

So, I've had an opportunity presented to me, and I'm just curious what you guys think this motor I've been offered is worth.

This is a running motor that's still in the car but about to get replaced because he wants a bigger motor and has the money, lol.

    1971 2 bolt main 350 block
Rebuilt 10 years ago and put back in the original car, 10,000 miles since (show car) Bored .030" over to 355 C.I.
    10.5:1 compression
Kieth Black Silv-o-lite Hyper-eutectic pistons with moly rings
    Clevite bearings
Comp Cams valve train, flat tappet hydraulic cam (not sure of cam specs yet but it's healthy, not stock)
Brodix Aluminum heads (not sure what head yet or valve size)
    Roller tip 1.5:1 ratio rockers
Dual point GM distributor with crank trigger
Professionally tuned in Rochester quadrajet Carburetor

I've seen and heard this motor run. It's sweet, he just wants a bigger motor to brag about, lol, he doesn't even run it real hard. He just drove to St. Ignace and back last weekend with it so it hasn't been sitting either. It's from a trusted source too.

So, I just wanted to see what you guys thought it was worth.

I cant see no less than $1500 with those alum heads on that motor, and a compleate motor at that, he will probubly want around $2000 for it,
does it have any port work done to it???? that can add up quick.

Not that I'm aware of. Yeah, I'm thinking it would cost me around $3k to build it with those parts and machine work.

only downside i see to it is the 2 bolt main. but that wouldnt bother me as a buyer... my LT1 is a 2 bolt main and that has proven to not be a weakpoint on them.

I'd give a grand at most for it.

The heads are worth more than the rest of the motor...

                    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Brodi...spagenameZWDVW

I also would start at $1500 and wouldn't go higher than $2000.

Remember it's a small block Chevy...parts are cheap, cheap, cheap...

Oh I know parts are cheap. It's just been 5-6 years since I've looked at prices on a motor like this.

Well....it's a 10 year old motor with 10K miles on it...that means about 1K per year...which equates to ALOT of dry starts (ie...beat up bearings) and a lot of sitting around for gaskets to dry out. The motor doesn't have one single high dollar piece on it (minus the heads...which I'm guessing they are some of the cheaper Brodix heads) it was a budget build for sure.

If you could pick it up for a grand, I would do it. Plan on pulling it all apart, re-ringing it, new bearings, dingle berry hone the cyliders, new head gaskets.......now your looking at 400-500 in parts...head gaskets alone will cost you $70 for the right ones.

That's my take on the situation.

Well, He said the heads were $1000 when he bought them, I'll find out what they are. Had the block bored, line honed and decked. Thanks, those are some good points for sure.
