No sensor after the cat. I have a loud exhaust already with a custom cat back so maybe a new cat if needed for sound. The leak at the cat seems to be where that line connects, I need to get a better look at it but I did tighten the clamp holding it on, still leaks. The terrible noise seems to run the entire line from the valve off the air pump/engine to the cat. The whole thing acts like its under way too much pressure when it kicks on at low rpm after its warmed. So my thought is that line into the cat is clogged?? Exhaust seems to flow thru the cat just fine and no performance issues. Right now I just have the top of the line pulled off from the valve where it is a rubber hose. The air pump belt is still connected so warm air pumps out into the engine compartment, but if I hook that hose back up to the cat my whinning noise is back right there. Should I just take the belt off from the air pump and run it like that for now? It is likely that i will eventually swap out this engine and not use the air pump stuff at that time anyhow.

So any harm or any thing additional I should do to disable the air pump? Any other suggestions?

    Thanks

No, I'd just take the belt off then and cap that metal line. unless you hear an exhaust leak it's fine. All the air pump does is dilute the exhaust so that they could pass emissions with it. Yank the belt, cap the line, no noise, you should be fine IMO.

blue smoke is usually from bad piston rings.. although it usually looks alot worse than that. dunno if thats a problem you would have or not

Doesn't have to be just from piston rings, could also come from valve seals too.

What do you run for oil?

            Royal Purple full synthetic

I thought about adding something for the summer like motor honey I think its called? What do you think, ever used that additive called Restore maybe? I can't really tell if the smoke is blue or black, usually it looks more black.... I'm also sure the carb could use some fine tuning, it's old and kinda performs like it.

Blue smoke will come from worn rings, worn valve guides or internal leaks. Rings will normally cause the car smoke after it sits at idle for long periods because the rings cool down and shrink....goes away almost completely when the engine gets placed under load and heats the rings back up unless it's really bad. Worn valve guides will smoke all the time, more under load though.

Well if it's more of a black color then it sounds like it may be just a carb tuning issue. Maybe run some cleaner through a tank and see if it gets better.

Royal Purple is great stuff, so you are on the right track there. If you want to run an additive the only one that I've personally noticed any difference with is Lucas oil additive. You can try it, see if it helps. If you do, make sure you get the one that is for synthetic oil. Question is, does it use oil? If it doesn't I wouldn't mess with it. I'd also recommend the Lucas fuel treatment for the carb too.

Actually no I am not using any oil. I have about 1200 miles on my current oil change and the dip stick is reading full. I check it all the time because I expected to use some. I will look for the lucas fuel treatment for the carb. What about sea foam added to the fuel? any good? Thanks

I would just keep checking the oil regularily then if you aren't using any and not worry about it. Is sea foam a product name?

                      first,
you have a leaking check valve on the a.i.r. pipe. thats whats making the whinning noise. their about $12 and easy to replace if the tube isn't rusted to badly.

                      second,
from the timming of the oil smoke puff. it came a second after the throttle plate was shut after you poked the pedel open.
tell tail valve seal/worn guide smoke. engine vacuum is the greatest when the throttle plate is slammed shut and will pull vacumm from anywhere it can find. i.e.: worn valve seal/valve guide's. worn/ weak piston rings seal the best under a vacuum and contribute very little at the event.

most likely you have broken retaining bands that hold the valve seals to the guides. allowing the valve seals to ride up and down with valve movement and exposing the bare guide to drain back oil, thus creating the smoke cloud.

accel smoke rings, decel smoke valves

                      third,
you will never fix anything pouring a bottle of "magic" fluid into a vehicle.
if your system is gummed up or worn out enough that a bottle of "mechanic in a can" does help if at all, it is only a band-aid and will fail again shortly.
                      fix it right.
