Drive shaft?

This is on my 1994 Firebird with the 3.4L
Ok....Im hearing this noise from under my car when I take off fast and turn corners. So I get it up on the hoist. I have my nephew jump in and start it up and put it in gear and give it some gas. Well, I have a split Drive Shaft. And where it splits.....thats making a real bad humming sound. I called the local shops and they didnt have a clue what it was. I want to change the front and rear U-Joints......but whats that center piece called? And whats all involved in swapping that thing. Can I just pit a solid Drive Shaft in it? Not like I need one, but I guess it depends on the cost of that center piece.

definitely ditch the two-piece drive shaft, a solid one will swap right in.

V8 - V6 driveshaft the same thing? Will that swap?

Yes a one piece v8 shaft should just drop right in

I sure will. Even if I get a junk yard drive shaft. I'm still going to change both U-joints before I install it.
But I will let everyone know.

No, theres the front yoke, that slides into the tranny. Then the drive shaft, and its like the drive shaft is cut in half. And theres like a bearing or something that hooks the front part of the drive shaft to the rear of the drive shaft. Then you have the part that bolts to the rear diff.
Its weird, why not a solid driveshaft?? Who knows.

I havent heard from the junk yard yet about the driveshaft. I want to keep my options open. I dont care how I fix it, as long as I fix it.

seriously, throw the two-piece unit in the garbage. You should be able to find a steel or even an aluminum one relatively cheap.

carrier or midship bearing.
It can be replaced but a one piece alum is much better

Well, I got a metal drive shaft out of a 98 camaro. I also bought 2 new U-Joints. I have to put the new U-joints on and install the driveshaft tomarrow. We had alot going on in the shop tonight to get my car up on the hoist.
