  • 2008 Dodge Caravan strange transmission issue

Ok, I freely admit transmissions are my weak point when it comes to a car. In my experience, a transmission has always been all or nothing, good or bad. This one is a little weird.

When you first start the van, reverse works fine. Drive works, but the trans is a bit noisy, creaking and popping type noises. This condition last s for about 30 seconds. Then all gears cut out, no drive, no reverse, neutral in all gears. No further noise from the tranny.

This is a service free transmission, so I cant really check the fluid level. Suggestions? My first inclination is to pull the tranny and have it rebuilt, but I would hate to waste the effort to find out its something silly.

they are also dodges weak point too specially in their vans. For what its worth, for every 11 trans complaints: 5 needed rebuild, 3 needed total replacement, 2 needed software updated and 1 traded in for a loss.

There was a lot of issues with the power steering in the 2008 models as well.

SO speaking numbers your thinking is looking spot on.
