  • 6 speed conversion, possible?

I know its possible really, but how tough a job is it? Anybody do it before? How bad a job is it?
If you have done it would you do it again? I had a dream last night that I just cant shake, bet you can guess what it was!

So, trans and cross member. Flywheel, clutch, clutch pedal and bracket, different brake pedal. Is the clutch hydraulic or mechanical? Is the drive shaft the same as the automatic?
What about the trans tunnel and related holes are they different from auto to manual? console is different to Im sure

think of it as big boy legos.

Its just a process that you follow and do, I don't think any of it is "hard" if you follow a guide.

Just did mine last summer. You need a whole new pedal assembly. Comes with all 3 pedals.

Finding all of the parts is 75% of the battle.

You better know someone with a hoist. I couldn't imagine doing it on the ground.

This is the write up I followed. http://www.afrashteh.com/tranny_pics/T56.htm

I can pull a 4l60e on the ground in just about an hour and a half. It really is not too bad of a job.

Like others have said, the biggest hurdle is finding the parts. Swapping isnt all that bad. Youll have to cut a hole for the shifter under the center console. And I fully support this project, that car deserves a 6 speed!

I'm a bit curious about the swap in case I end up with an A4 donor chassis

This is something I always wanted to do to this car!!! Good luck Joe! Just don't forget you will need a 2002 center console upper part for a 6 speed not a 94 upper console.

Well, I am just looking at the option at this point......should the right donor car come along, ne can never tell. Or if enough seperate parts show up. Its something to think about.....

                    Shouldn't a 98 through 02 work Nick?

You would have to look into it but I think the color changed and the dash Is out of a 2002 car.
