Welcome to the Michigan FBody Association website.
The Michigan FBody Association is a centralized website for FBody enthusiasts to discuss what's going on in the Michigan area. MiFbody.com was created to allow for an easy one-stop place to find out what's going on in Michigan as far as FBody events, to find out what clubs are available in your immediate area, and for an easy place to post classifieds for items you want to sell! Our goal was to create a more close-knit community of FBody enthusiasts in the state of Michigan, and to bring Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts alike together for some amazing FBody events!
The most important thing to know about the Michigan FBody Association is that we are NOT a club! The Michigan FBody Association is open to everyone, and is a community. Thus, we will have get togethers, casual cruises, events, and such like that, but this is not an exclusive club and it's 100% free to join this site! So what are you waiting for? Register now!

Yup, drilled the line. My brain is fried - maybe it was a quart of fluid - the bigger container. I didn't see any air bubbles. I used a Motive powerbleeder. Maybe I'll recruit the wife and do the old school method. The speedbleeder on the Tick line doesn't seem to be working properly as it seems to suck air back up the line when I try to just crack it and bleed with the pedal.
I'll absolutely bleed the system more tomorrow, see if it helps.

Sounds like you have the bleeder open to far. Just barely crack it. I run mine under the car out by the drop so I can see what comes out while I pump.
Did you pump the master with the power bleeder on it?
No the tires should not spin - that's a good indication that the clutch isn't disengaging.
He has the car up in the air. He said clutch in and brakes on will stop them and not load the engine.
Kevin, have you put it on back on the ground yet? My vacuum tank will pull air even with the slightest cracking of the bleeder so I always do the old school method as a final check. If it's hard to get into any gear then I'd suspect the clutch
Mike - if it's spinning the tires in the air with the clutch in, either the disk isn't fully disengaging or the input shaft is way to tight on the pilot bearing. Neither is good.
It sounds like he still has air in the system. You have to pump the shit out of new hydraulics to get the air out. Once the air is out it'll fall into gear.
Kevin did you bleed the master separately to start or did you do the entire system as a unit?
You can speed the process up by disconnecting the line at the quick release, pumping the master and then pressing in on the pressure release valve. It's messy but it works. Then hook the slave back up and bleed the air out of it.
Once it feels good - put the car back down and out the clutch in and bring the rpm's up while in gear, if it creeps it's still not disengaging fully. Without knowing where the air gap is - it's hard to say if it needed a shim or not. It shouldn't but sometimes the tolerance stack up just enough to require one.
I didn't bench bleed - figured a powerbleeding would take care of it, and less chance of dripping brake fluid with the system dry.
The clutch feels pretty decent to me, but I will bleed it again today or tomorrow. Wasn't able to get to it yet. Being that it's hard to get into gear, I don't consider the drag normal. If I slipped into gear like butter, I'd be more inclined to let it go for a few miles and see how it acts from there.
I plan to bleed the hydraulics really well and see if it goes into gear any easier. If so, I'll put it on the ground and try the rev test. If it doesn't start shifting easily, I'll drop the trans back out and take the proper measurements to see if I do need a shim.
So, I did a JDM method with the tick bleeder, although I know it's kind of frowned upon by some - basically fed the bleeder line into the reservoir, submerged it, and bled the hell out of the system.
The first iteration today, I barely cracked the bleeder, pumped the pedal like crazy both full travel and just at the top of the travel, varying speeds. It seemed very marginally better, but trans still wouldn't disengage and it was tough getting it into gear.
Came back inside, gave myself a few hours to relax, went back out and tried it again. Cracked the bleeder a little further than last time, and was very slow on the pedal. Push down slow and firmly, pull back up, count to 5, do it again (if I went faster than 5 seconds, it's like the CMC didn't fill back up with fluid fully).
Anyway, after several dozen iterations of that, I sealed the bleeder back up and gave it a whirl - on jackstands, absolutely 0 wheel movement with the clutch down to the floor, and it slips into gear very nicely again. Clutch seems to disengage very low off the floor, just like folks had reported it would at first.
Hopefully we're good to go! Need to reassemble the counsel and get it down off jackstands and see how it's feeling. Hopefully I'll get it down tonight, or tomorrow at the latest. Need to spend some much-needed quality time with my wife and daughter today
What a relief! I am hoping I am in the clear now and can enjoy this thing again!
Just wanted to say thanks again, everyone. Drove the car in to work today and it feels really great! It's hard to baby it, I really just want to go!
I only have about 25 miles on it thus far, but it's a night and day difference - I think my old clutch was pretty bad and I just didn't realize it. It wasn't shot, but this feels SO much better.
Drove it 100+ miles yesterday. For the most part, felt great. Seemed a little sticky trying to get it into first and third, but it wasn't too bad. Last night, went to back up and it was difficult to get into reverse.
This morning I pull it out of the garage, and it seemed a little tough to get into gear, but not ridiculously so. Pedal felt fine. Drove it about a mile and I could feel the clutch not fully disengaging so I turned around and took it home. By that point, I couldn't even get it into reverse to back it into the garage. Left it in the driveway and went to work. Side note, as of this morning at 7am, the pedal felt fine.
Went outside at about 8:00 to bleed the clutch again, thinking it was a smaller air bubble, and I pretty much have no pressure whatsoever again. Tried to bleed it to no avail.
What the hell is going on?? I am going to try and disconnect the slave cylinder tomorrow and see if the CMC has pressure. I have no fluid loss whatsoever. CMC is a new Autozone unit, so is the slave - slave has the "AP" branding on it though, so allegedly the same as the OEM.
Holy crap Kevin, This is crazy, Let me know how its going by the weekend, If I can sneak out Id be willing to swing by over the weekend
Cool, will do. Yeah, it's freaking nuts. I mean, the thing really felt good. I've replaced the flywheel, clutch disc/pressure plate, slave, CMC. I did the drill mod...I think the only reused part is the plastic fluid reservoir and the braided line.
Nope, not as far as I can tell. Run in the stock location under the heat shield. Will cbeck it out more tomorrow. Maybe I'll try to powerbleed it again.
