Just My 0.02 since I'm in the same boat...

I support the others by saying have the trans shop go through the transmission top to bottom. If something is starting to let go, it will be much cheaper NOW to fix, than if it takes out additional parts - including your valve body.

If the converter is questionable - get rid of it. The buddy system fails to work when parts fail and big repair bills come in place of it.
I would believe hardened converter fin material can quickly shred a transmission to bits.
What about Circle D converters? I've heard many good things about them. It seems to be a favorite among we truck guys.
The parts are only half the story though - is the PCM programmed correctly for converter lock up? That will shred a converter too.
You shouldn't be seeing a lot of heat in the trans. FWIW - my truck daily driven off the E-way gets to about 115F. Romping on it hard 125-130F....

My 4L60E was also rebuilt by a local "reputable" garage, and 20K later, it's slipping.
Clean fluid, PCM commands shifts, but trans does not respond. Even after vette servos, "Super Servos", same issue.

I paid $1400 to have mine rebuilt, and I'm considering a TCI aftermarket 4L60E trans just because it's backed by a large company, not joe-bloe's garage. Not saying these folks are bad people - but at some point you need to get something that works for the long term.

It might be something to consider before taking the leap to a 4L80E, and weigh the cost of each.

I see trans temps in the 160-180 range once warmed up. This seems to be pretty common in the fbody world, especially for a car with a 4k rpm converter.

I dropped the car off at the trans shop today, will have some sort of news tomorrow. So far, its on their dime, so im not *****ing at the moment. We shall see. If this does not work out Ill be saving this summer and just put an RPM level 4 or 5 in.

Not a huge TCI fan myself, the only company I trust at this point is RPM, there transmissions continue to set records and come with the highest recomendations.

Dr. Phil has done all the tuning, so I would bet good money that that is not the issue.

      Fingers crossed!

Got a bad news phone call this morning. Looks to them like converter failure. They are dropping it out for a tear down, I highly doubt im going to be hearing any good news at this point....

Bummer dude! You've sure had bad luck with the transmission area of that car, including the failed tailshaft at the dyno.

Still waiting to hear from them, I dont even know what a converter is gonna cost. Nor if im going to be able to afford it, making me sick to think about it.

Sold my 60E and Yank converter to Jonny, who in turn sold the converter to Rolo, who I believe sold it as well lol.
