  • Trans troubles? AGAIN!?

Got my car out last Thursday, honestly havent beaten on it much, just a lot of driving (family plans for the holiday weekend, etc). Tonight, on my way home from Howell on the expressway I noticed what felt like TCC or trans slip. Paging through my Aeroforce Interceptor pretty much anything other just maintaining speed on flat ground showed excessive slip that correlated with throttle %.

This is EXACTLY what happened the last 2 times my 3/4 clutch pack went!!! Did I just cook my 3rd 4l60e in 3 years?

As long as I was just cruising 0-4, anytime I touched the throttle for ANY reason it went up, sometimes even just when going up a hill on the expressway with the cruise set, anywhere from 100+ to 1000+

I didnt think it did, till I put it in 3rd and it and punched it. It didnt seem right at all, definitely felt like it was slipping, kinda like it was grabbing and holding then letting go, over and over.

Yes, one of his nicer units like Johnny was selling, billet cover, 4000rpm.

smell the fluid. may be just the convetor letting go. he did a stock one for my brothers suburban and at first it lost lockup then it wouldnt move. convertor was JUNK!!

but if the tcc goes it dumps all that junk right in the middle of the trans

Fluid smells good actually, its not bright red/pink though. more of a marooon/purple color. Temps were acceptable, never exceeded 175 all the way home, including the little bit of flogging it got while I was "testing" for problems.

Considering a t56, but I hate that a clutch that holds any kind of power drives like shit, thats no fun on a daily basis.

Half tempted to put a 4l80 in it and call it a day.

I drove my car with a brand new Spec Stage 3 (Rated to like 765ft lbs) feels stock to me. Granted I only drove it like 2 miles just around the block a couple times, need to break it in for 500.

LS7 clutch with an ls2 flywheel should hold your power with stock driveability

A real 4L60E and converter will hold the power your making. An RPM level 4-5 would be more than enough. You need to stop screwing around with the Ridings junk...

                            Re: Trans troubles? AGAIN!?

Phil's Transmission in Clio built this trans, they have an awesome reputation and my dad sends all of his heavy duty work trucks there as well as his bosses hot rods, so needless to say I am very shocked I'm having troubles.

The big bummer is I probably won't have the cash to put another trans in it this summer, might be my first f-body less summer in 7 years.

For two years we thought I was having convertor problems. After restall stall and everything it would tag the limiter on 2-3 shift . Well. Right after it shifted . Data was saying I had a ton of TC slip like I was going thru the convertor. Lol. One day Phil says dump some more fluid in it. Filled up to the hot line while cold and no more problems. Dam thing was sucking the pan dry. . Even after all that this rpm trans still works great. Thought for sure it would be smoked. Been trying to get Phil to take it back for a check up to make sure so I don't break it in the middle of the year but they keep saying nah. It's fine, throw a deep pan on.
Pretty sure everyone else's would have been smoked.
