  • ridings automatics lock up transmission

Has anyone heard of a lock up built into the trans and can be activated with a micro switch? And im not talking about a trans brake. I bought a trans and it has one built into it. Also does anyone know if I need a matching converter built by him or can I get any lock converter for it.

    Thanks guys.

Should be any lock up converter, that switch should only control the lockup solenoid.

My question is - Why is it there? Did you get a 700r4??

Are you talking about his lock up TH400?

You would need to buy a TH400 converter with a lock up disc.

Yes its the lock up th400 the switch only controls the solenoid. What's the advantage of it? tried doing some research and cant find anything.

I would pm him but he's never on here. I bought it off a guy who had it built and never ended up using it.

I don't know much about the 400 lockup kits. I would run a 3rd gear pressure switch (if there is a port), brake switch, and vacuum switch to automate the lockup system.

I take it you bought this off Anthony? If so good deal there, I think your pretty limited on converter selection, but it would just be best to contact ridings himself.

Yea im pretty sure that's the guys name.he said he was just gunna hook it up to a microswitch to activiate it. I kinda plan on going with a ridings converter just so they're matched. And thanks man from what he told me its a pretty much bullet proof trans.

What happens when you have to hit the brakes or mash the gas? That's why I don't like lockup converters direct wired to switches.

To be honest I don't 100% get what its for or does. I just know its used for like a 4th gear. The car isn't driven on the street much and the lock up would probably be only used on the freeway

Think of the lockup like a clutch (in fact that is pretty much what it is) and when the lockup is on, the clutch "out", or a direct 1:1 lock of engine RPM and input shaft RPM. Ever try to stop a manual car without pushing the clutch in?

When mashing the throttle (with lockup engaged) it's like not being able to downshift. Well, the trans will downshift, but it wouldn't work in the peak and could burn up the discs in the converter.

Gotcha, Idk why its so hard to find info about them online. Will it hurt anything if I rarely use the lock up?

Nope. Just run a nice cooler to keep temps in check

I sent Mike the link since we were just chatting on Facebook - I know he's pretty busy and doesn't check on the site often so I figured reaching out to him directly would be easier.
