  • Trans install advice/help...

So I got the clutch in and lined up with the alignment tool. Managed to squeeze the transmission back up in there and got it maybe a 1/4 in. into the clutch and it gets stuck. I'm assuming it's hitting the pilot bearing somehow but it doesn't make sense b/c the alignment tool goes in and out just fine. Is it just that hard to push it in b/c of the slave cylinder or am I missing something...?

Pilot bearing/bushing will only stop the trans from going in the last inch or so, if it is new. Rotate the input shaft slightly and try again...I can imagine a T56 would be a PITA to line up just right by yourself if you're on your back. T5's and Muncies are my physical limit, any more weight and I need help.

Slave is new, there shouldn't be any fluid in there...or am I wrong?

Cracked it b4 install, sounds like mine is getting hung up on those dowels also, which is what I originally thought. I also thought it would eventually go in after pulling it in and out a few times. Hate cars, lol! What do you do to get her in?

Pulled it in with the bolts.....I hate doing it but I've had to do that 2 out of the 3 times I've installed this damn transmission.

                      Get a real alignment tool
                      The plastic ones are worthless

The alignment tool is a pain. You actually need to push it in farther is my guess. We thought we had it all the way in on Kolin's car, but turns out we had to fiddle with it and push it in further to get everything to line up.

Got that SOB in last night, managed to get it close enough to pull it in with the bolts. Now the only PITA left is getting my solid motor mounts lined back up to put the bolts back in. Wow have I mentioned how much I love working on cars...lol!
