  • So I'm going to be buying a front wheel bearing

    I'm replacing my drivers side steering knuckle, with 157,xxx on the car I figure I might was well replace the bearing as well.

    I've been looking on rockauto, I know Moog makes really good parts, but for cost I'm leaning towards the raybestos model at about 2/3 the price. The only brand I've ever heard mentioned specifically is people buying the timken ones.

    Anyone have suggestions/warnings?
    The Chevy Camaro was built with a single purpose in mind which it executes flawlessly...Going very very fast in a straight line until your hair catches on fire.

      I've had very good luck with these.

      I use them on my Jeep and they have lasted twice as long as any Autozone special or Timken I've tried.

        I would buy the one made in the USA even if it cost more. Helps save someones job.

          While i'm a very patriotic person, I won't buy a product simply because it's made in the U.S. If it's a better product, and within my price range for certain I will, but to just blindly buy a product because it's american made kind of goes against the whole free market system our country is based on. A perfect example is american made cars, american cars used to be good for about 100,000 before they started falling apart. Then the Japanese came in with honda and toyota and cars that lasted 300,000 plus.

          If we just blindly bought american cars, even though the japanese models were more reliable, the american car makers wouldn't have to step up their game. But instead the american car makers did have to step up their game and we have much better american cars now that can compete with foreign automakers.

                    yup I bought Timken, cant go wrong with lifetime warranty, cost is more but well worth it

                      This is the way I look at it. These cars aren't your grandmas Honda. I know you're going to mash that pedal through the floor pan, she will see abuse from time to time. Ever have a wheel bearing seize? I've never been driving when one did but I would imagine at 100mph its not going to be pretty. So I would splurge for the better part for a 'performance' car, and probably save money when replacing one on a DD that I don't abuse.

                        Well, it turns out I needed to buy two wheel bearings. The passenger side is one that's shot and since I need to replace the Drivers side steering knuckle I might as well replace that side as well. Given that I needed a pair I bought the Dearborn Axle ones that Concept posted up. Their store is right here in Detroit so they can't be that bad. For you guys that suggested the more traditional brands, don't think I'm dismissing your advice outright but the potential cost savings was too good not to at least give them a shot. If they don't work out, feel free to say "I told you so".
