  • Look what i found.

While cleaning out my T/A I found a wire underneath my drivers seat. followed it a little farther back and discovered

as you can see i found it on the off position. i looked up reviews and it seems to be very bias to one side or the other. I had every intention of getting an actual shift kit at sometime. but seeing as i have this for now. what are your thoughts? Harmful? Fun? Useful?

Its supposed to increase the pressure in the rails which causes it to shift faster/harder. B&M says
ShiftPlus simply recalibrates your transmission's hydraulic system electronically. The ShiftPlus shift firmness not only makes driving more fun and pleasurable, but slippage and heat are reduced - extending the life of your transmission! Anyone can install a B&M ShiftPlus in minutes with a few simple hand tools. This design allows you to improve the transmission's shifting performance without removing the transmission pan or valve body. The B&M ShiftPlus electronically enhances shift quality and is adjustable. A simple flip of the switch allows the transmission to operate in the performance mode. Flip it back and you are back to stock!
ill let you know the difference when i get back from school tomorrow.

I had one in my old Silverado with the 4l80e. I usually ran it in the 1st setting.

Is that for the lock up torque convertor?

It tricks the ecu into applying more line pressure.

Plenty of auto-equipped Cobalt owners have one. I had one, shifts firmer and quicker. My tune does the same thing, so I took mine out and sold it. But yep, pretty neat little device.

Just out of complete curiosity, how does it tie into the car's electronics to trick the trans into the firmer shifts? Does it tap into the PCM or the transmission plug or something?

Into a couple of trans control wires

Two wires that get spliced into your harness. I'm almost positive the wires go to the PCM. I drove to school with it on the first level and when I accelerated onto the main road my garage door opener flew off my visor and hit me in the face lol. I tried the second level on the way home, and if I didn't need trans mounts I would definitely drive in that setting. Much firmer shifts. Both levels seem to aid in getting power to the ground. Just my .02

Raising line pressure can also cause lots of problems if the trans isnt setup for it.

Its like the Performance button in Sx1 auto Saturns. When you activate it, it bumps up line pressure as said making the shifts harder, but also in the Saturns it would make the automatic trans shift at redline.

The unit taps into the PCM with a couple of resistors on each of the switch positions. The resistors pull down the line pressure signal to a ground cause it to bleed off some voltage. That change in voltage makes the ecu think that it needs to provide higher line pressure to even out and does so.

Spencer is right. If your trans has high mileage, this can do more harm than good. Although it talks about physically increasing the line pressure, pages 1-3 in this Sonnax PDF have some good detail on why increasing line pressure can be a bad thing:
