i dont see a bad thing about a 3.8 or 4.3 in a thirdgen really, but its more practical for a daily driver then

but your agreeing to do it, just as not of a smart move of actually doing it. I'd refuse, since you ALREADY know that then you know that is the smartest move. 4.3 in thirdgen is fail and pointless.

If that 4.3 came out of a Typhoon/Syclone...different story

The 3.8 will be a wiring headache depending on the year of the car, same if you use a later model 4.3 and keep EFI.

vortec would be fairly simple wiring wise. nothing said you cant put a turbo on a 4.3 afterwards. you can actually build them up pretty well. nelsoon has a 1073hp 4.3Lv6 that is a monster. they also respond well to cam/intake/heads/stuff like that as do sbc's

darren i agree with you but i dont have much say in this. im under their roof they feed me blah blah. im not gonna be the one driving it hell i dont even know if its gonna happen. all i simply did was give them a list of engine in vehicles with hp torque numbers as well as fuel economy numbers and the vehicles wieghts. this is what THEY picked.
if this were to happen then yeah id end up having fun with it later on probably. which would mean a few mods. why would I want a v6 when i have to very small block v8's in the garage?

I sure wish GM would have offered a 3.8 in the S-10's.. that would have been bad ass... don't get me wrong, the 4.3 is a good motor... gobs of torque down low and bullet proof. But in a car???.. the torque curve on the 4.3 was made for a truck... I get bettar MPG in my camaro (see sig) than i could have ever gotten in my 2001 short box, regular cab, s-10 4.3, 5spd with 3.08 gears rated at 16 city 21 highway.

My 2000 Jimmy 4x4 2 door 3.42 open diff gets about 15-16 mpg in the winter, 17-18 summer. The best I have ever done was 23mpg - all highway with 29.5" tires (28" stock) and the wind to my ass the entire way

i didnt think i need to explain every little step. my sister didnt choose that she wanted to firebird before hand it wasnt till after. i gave them a list of v6 engines and what cars they came in it wasnt til after when she decided she wanted a bird. i told her 4th gens had 3.8's and 3.4's but that was out of price range. if thats outta price range then what the hell is. i was just simply asking about the engine in itself not to make a huge argument about it

I agree with Darren go 305 or don't do it at all. Or find maybe one with a stock v6 but I'm sure a 305 could get just as good.

I got 21 mpg with my 357 at 10.5-1 on premium over carbed cruising down the highway at 80 mph. What more could you ask for?

I would have to say that a 4.3 will be a lot nor work than a 305. If you've never worked with installing a motor swap before than its not going to be fun specially if you don't have a way to tune it. I ran the commander 950 setup on my tpi setup for awhile and I will admit I was way over my head when it came to tuning for the first few weeks.

As far as Nelson's go do you think they have less than 10k into into that motor? Yea you can base a motor off some one else but there's is a WELL built motor. Just cuz that motor can make 1000+ hp doesn't make it a good candidate. A turbo big block can make 2500+ hp which is a lot but doesn't justify its reasoning to put it into your sisters car.

I understand what Darren's trying to say it not a good choice for the headache or the price.

                          ding ding ding!

I dont know why I keep clicking this thread, something is making me tho. Whats the budget? If she is REALLY looking for a car, post a thread in the PIT there are many people on here that can find you a car IN ANY price range. I would bet any amount of money that I can buy a v6 4th gen for less then you would have into a 4.3 swap into a thirdgen (including the price of the roller and everything).

                          Wanna try me?

I would also have to say that a v6 4th gen is a way better better choice as far as anti lock brakes, traction control go. I wouldn't put my 16 yo sister in a thirdgen with any size motor if it was her first car. I mean I would like to say I'm a good driving but hydro planing is hydro planing I wouldn't trust my little sister to know what to do if a bad case of it happened.

I would try explain the risk of her driving it as her first car. I would say its cool that she wants one but the practicality for a first vehicle girl car is a bad choice in my opinion.
