Welcome to the Michigan FBody Association website.
The Michigan FBody Association is a centralized website for FBody enthusiasts to discuss what's going on in the Michigan area. MiFbody.com was created to allow for an easy one-stop place to find out what's going on in Michigan as far as FBody events, to find out what clubs are available in your immediate area, and for an easy place to post classifieds for items you want to sell! Our goal was to create a more close-knit community of FBody enthusiasts in the state of Michigan, and to bring Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts alike together for some amazing FBody events!
The most important thing to know about the Michigan FBody Association is that we are NOT a club! The Michigan FBody Association is open to everyone, and is a community. Thus, we will have get togethers, casual cruises, events, and such like that, but this is not an exclusive club and it's 100% free to join this site! So what are you waiting for? Register now!

like has been said keep a cool head approach him with the problem and show him what was done incorrectly. maybe hell offer to pay you pay and redo it, if he does that i say let him and then have someone check over his work because if hes eating his cost hell be paying for new rods not you.
My dad just told me about this thread - I thought you were posting your issues in the oil prime thread lol. Sorry to hear that's what it was but good eye to Larry. Hopefully he does right on the improper build.

That was def a good catch. I had to look at the pictures 20 times to see what he was talking about. Hopefully the dude will do you right Mike, he obviously made a major mistake..
yeah thats what i was referring to. wrong word choice. you really gotta know what your doing cause that is the ever most slightest mistake.
I disagree - that's more than the "ever most slightest mistake." Without any LS1 experience, others noticed one side was flat and the other was round. That *should* have been enough of a reason for him to stop and do a bit of research before continuing to assemble. Usually something like that means it goes a certain way. Totally different animal but still applicable example, when I was doing my LED conversion on my gauge cluster, the PLCC-2 LEDs have one corner notched. As soon as I noticed that, I immediately stopped and investigated and figured out that the notch was the polarity.
brian i agree with you but what i was trying to say is what if he didnt even notice it that is the slightest little mistake on his part, if he did notice it he shouldve taken a second to think wow i should stop and look at this in depth a little more.
If he didn't notice it, then why were all of the rod pairs exactly the same? Did he have the pistons on backward on some cylinders too? If it was just a mistake, the I could see a couple the wrong way, but this has a pattern.
if the pistons were on backwards then the valve reliefs wouldnt have been in the right spot, right? im unsure and would have to go and mock up the heads to figure it out. im gonna give him a call tomorrow and see whats next.
again where is the closest ls builder to the grand rapids area, if there is?

TJ at baker is the only one in the area i know of that is familar with LS engines..
I would go and talk to Paul he's a pretty good guy and VERY knowledgable. I most certainly sure he'll stand by his mistake. He might of just figured that's the way it goes with the flats towards each other.
He builds good shit all the time and doesn't have issues. a 450 hp motor is peanuts to Paul and you know that too. I think it was the lack of experience with ls motors that caused the mishap.
I wouldn't knock on him to hard and mistakes happen that's just the human error in life. If he doesn't fix the mistake then I would just take your money somewhere else next time.
Well the pistons only have two valve releifs so he installed all 8 rods the same direction. So no matter what rod, and piston he put in it would end up with the flats toward each other, thus he didn't probly realise the mistake... one thing I noticed right away was non of the rods were numbered, ne one knows to number them to make sure they go on the crank in the same spot...as far as havin him build it I wouldn't, I would do it myself. I would have the crank machined and install 8 new rods then have a differant machine shop balace it. Then we can assemble the motor, that way u know how everything is in the motor and only have ur self to blame...
i have yet to knock paul. i know hes very smart and as far as i know he will stand behind his mistake and make it right. i just dont know if he will want to try again. him standing behind it would consist of dishing out the labor and cost of everything that will need replacing right down to gaskets, head bolts, and even the fluids. am i wrong to think this way? for some reason i think our relationship is going down the tubes soon.

hate to say it but i will bet he will not replace everything.. he may do all the labor and a few other things.. but im sure he isnt going to drop all the money for gaskets and fluids or the rods for that matter.. good luck tho, hopefully he covers most of it for you
