after having dustin (alwaysmessedup) who is an ase certified mechanic at a GM dealership look at the valvetrain, i put the coil packs and valve covers back on and started it for a quick second to let him hear, i did not need to hold the throttle, it idled but was making terrible noise. dustin says a bearing and by the sounds a rod bearing which is what ive thought all along. watching my oil gauge and trying to bring the rpm up a little, the needle on the gauge never moved. so zero oil pressure too. unsure what may have happened. maybe the oil pump took a shit on me causing the spun bearing??

I know spun bearings always mess with our gauges. Prolly just a rod bearing and you should be alright.

Get that ***** out and tear it down and see what's wrong!!!

Hopefully it didn't tear it up to bad.

I'm not one to jump to blaming a builder either, but wouldn't a spun bearing after 5k miles be probable builder error?

No. He has said he's not nice to the car. Builder error would have happened damn near immediately. More that likely just a part failure

Is this motor even built? I was under the impression that it was a stock bottom end with rod bolts... Which in that case theses really no "builder" to blame.

I sure hope it wasn't the oil pump, I would never try and sell you a part I knew would fail. The motor was rebuilt guys he put Mahle pistons in and ARP rod bolts.

why are we pointing fingers at whose fault it is. if it was a crappy build job it woulda happened earlier just a bad part, but which one is what we need to find out.

i know you wouldnt, just dont know if i want to chance it again.

yeah mahle forged pistons, stock rods, and arp rod bolts and new bearings throughout block

i had another member here mention to me about how ARP rod bolts will cause the big rod end to distort and cause premature failure/wear. after researching some ive seen numerous stories and others talking about the same issues. some lasting longer then others and some having no issues at all but seems to be more with the 98s.
