ya definitly check plugs before you pull the motor. with long tubes it should be easy! check the 7 and 8 cylinders first. from my understanding, they are the two cylinders that get the hottest.

i dont see the problem being a huge issue. not sure if it was covered but you saiod you had to keep on the throttle? so does that mean it would stall out if you let off it? loss of power and all that would explain something in the heads id think, so maybe pop those off and see what you can find. did you check your oil yet for any signs?

Pull the plugs next - then the pushrods.

You checked for vacuum leaks and such? What about codes? A converter or trans coming apart can sound like the bottom end, and will drag the engine down some times.

if you have one of those foggers, or know anyone who does check for leaks that way.

thats how i found out both my wastegates were bad.. i spent a month trying to track down my vacuum leaks. a vacuum leak wouldnt cause bad noises tho.

true i couldnt have found the one on my truck when i got it without one of those. the whole thing sounds like valvetrain to me, a stuck valve would cause loss of power but not noise, and it didnt seem like anything was out of place in his pics. i dont think he spun a bearing because that would be a huge catastrophy with different symptoms, rods need to be checked for being bent or anything because that could certainly cause issues like this. check plugs, maybe the are fouled or hes misfiring. etc. i dont think its any of the rotating assembly thats all. without us knowing the kind of noise its making, it makes it a little more difficult to say what the issue is, besides going over basics.

guess pulling the plugs will be next and ill drain the oil and see what that looks like. if i dont see anything wrong here, next ill unbolt the stall and try and start the car?

I agree, pull the plugs. While they are out, try a compression test. That should tell you a lot about your shortblock. I have a very similar set up with a little smaller cam (224r). I have my car set up to shift at 6400. Don't understand why you're spinning it so high. From everything I've read so far, I wouldn't jump to any conclusions until you pull plugs and do that compression and/or leakdown test. Have faith.

prob shifts around 6400 then.. usually set your limiter up at least 500 rpm's past where it should shift

If the limiter is 6900, its probably shifting 64-6500.

Plugs and oil. Checking the oil should tell you a lot and its only 1 bolt

EDIT: beat me to it ^^^^

Holy shit. I wouldn't want half of you guys diagnosing my car. Do the easy stuff first. Some have already given you good info. Pull plugs, bar the engine over with a breaker bar. Drain oil and invest in an oil filter cutter. Being that you had a Service engine light, might wanna check that too.

I agree with sean about pulling plugs and seeing if they're bad. A spun bearing will normally let your car idle fine. Normally on out race motors it's actually hard to tell until the gauge goes crazy. But we normally break rods before that ever happens lol.

It's definently not a broken rod. Otherwise the ***** would shake like hell.

Do all the easy stuff that you can in the car. Probably save you a lot of time and hassle if it's something simple.

drained the oil and see golden sparkles in the oil. its obviously a bearing. making arrangements to drop the motor and repair. got some video i may post if it turned out good. thanks for all the help.

thinking its probably a rod bearing by sound so hopefully i didnt tear up the rod or crank. wont know for a few weeks when i can come up with some cash for the repairs and all thats involved. what a great way to start the new year
