  • Question for M6 owners

Being "old school" and remembering how to powershift a car (got to try it with a new Grand Sport Corvette a couple of weeks ago) I was wondering if anybody still does it with the 6 speed transmissions in Fbodies. I understand the problems with the rear ends breaking, but this was just floating around in my head.
When in doubt, Whip it out !

Right foot doesn't leave the floor until 10 feet after the stripe.

Whats the need to powershift? How much time do you REALLY gain?

I hope to never take my T56 out again - no powershifting for me.

Haven't done it in mine, but I have tried pre-loading the shifter when I'm racing thanks to Joel's advice

A powershifted manual trans is faster than any auto in the quarter mile, but an auto is going to be faster than a slowly shifted manual.

                    Not true.....

I powershift mine - it's fun, but you do break stuff.

Did it a few times to my LT1 car before 2nd gear went I highly doubt powershifting a car would gain me any time over how I currently shift the car

auto car will always be quicker if you have the right convertor. they are able to keep the engine at peak power. i have graphs (gear ratio/mph)) overlaid on dyno sheets to show where i need to shift in each gear for the least amount of power loss.

when most people powershift you can hear the engine rpm spike between gears. no one though i powershifted because you couldnt hear that on mine

go to 1:57 . GM even recommends power shifting the M6.

I worked at a dealership. Don't think I didnt powershift almost every manual car I got into.
