  • 4l80e and Quick Performance 9" Swap

With the onset of transmission failure, it's time to throw in the replacement:

I literally just picked it up from a terminal in Ypsi a few hours ago. It's a 2008 model with 30,000 miles that I picked up DIRT cheap from a wrecker in Florida. It also comes with a 3 month warranty that I intend on taking advantage of if something is wrong with it.

More pics and info as I go on with the project. I'm dynoing the car this weekend at the dyno day, which should be fine since the current 4l60e isn't slipping when it's in gear. After that, the old trans, driveshaft, and rear come out for the new goodies. Expected finish is around the middle of July. Since there's very minimal fab needed for this swap, I don't expect this to take much time to complete. Everything is on order except for a drive shaft at this point. I won't know what to get until I can actually measure everything at a resting state in the car.

    More to come!

I can't say I know you or the car, but I would like to think it's not a V6 car needing this.

Lol, no. Have a look in the engine swap section. I've got a year long thread in there detailing the car's current condition.

Are you ready for this Jeff?..........$465!!!! I had a lead on one with 3,000 miles for $700, but it sold literally a few hours before I called on it. The trick is simple. Most people hunting for a 4l80e are looking for one pulled out of a Silverado or a truck of some sort. I had a stroke of genius and started looking under Chevy Vans. Low and behold, even though they're completely compatible with each other, www.car-part.com's part cross reference system thinks otherwise and keeps two separate lists of transmissions. There's TONS of van transmissions out there at super lower prices with decent mileage. To further help you, my trans is off of a 2008 Chevy full size Van A.T., 2500, 4L80E, opt MT1, 135" WB, ID MDP (6.0L).

that sounds like a pretty damn good deal, I actually came across two recently for $175 and $75 both on which needed a rebuild but thats about what I'm looking to jump on. I'd rather build it once and be done with it, gonna need a brake on it anyways.

Alright, more pictures of stuff...some of which is in my engine swap thread but it's relevant here:

First we have a Transgo HD2 reprogramming kit, ARP flexplate bolts, and a BMR torque arm relocation trans cross member. The last part pisses me off because I'm a HUGE fan of UMI Performance. I would of spent money with them in a heartbeat if they made a 4l80e version. Oh well.

              Quick Performance 9" housing:

              Moser 31 spline axles:

              Roush-Yates NASCAR 3rd member:

              Specs:
              Purchased directly from Roush Yates
              Nodular iron 3.25" case
              Iron Daytona pinion support
Fully polished 3.80 Visteon ring and pinion
              Detroit locker (31 spline)
              ARP 12 point cap bolts
ARP 12 point safety wired ring bolts
              ARP 12 point pinion nut
              Timken bearings
              Billet steel 1350 yoke
Provisions for a NASCAR rear end oil pump

That's it for now. I should have the rest of the pieces sans drive shaft come next week!

Small update. A very important part just came in:

Circle D is classy as hell with their packaging presentation (the package includes instructions and two different Circle D stickers):

We have here a Circle D Stage I 245mm 3400 3B stall specifically made for the 4l80e swap:

This thing is way too sexy to throw under the car:

                More to come!

I must be blind, but I've been searching on there for a few days and everything seems to be just as expensive for those vans. Plus, it seems they give me transmissions from the model year that you put, no cross-reference? Maybe it's user error though, lol.

I could really use a deal like that or at least a cheap core to rebuild.

Not quite $465, but that's what I found in 5 minutes of searching.
