I agree you need an overdrive gear. It doesn't sound like a race car and most people don't care to drive on the highway at 3300 RPM. For the people who preach about TH350 and Th400s on your next 2-3 hour trip do not use an overdrive gear and I would be curious to hear your honest opnion after.

A 4l60e is another form of a 700R4. In 1993/1994 they started renaming how they clasify transmissions.
4- Four forward gears L- Longitudinal 60-relates to the torque capicity e-electronic

IF it were me I wouldn't change tranmissions, if its not broke don't fix it. I learned the hard way, buy what you want in the first place.

IF you have to have a manual I would lean towards the route Curtis is giving you. Your young, I would prefer to see you do something better with your money than spend $2500+ to install a 6 speed. $3,000 will buy you another 3rd gen with manual(but a T5).

If you love the car, hate your money, and plan to keep the car forever get a T56, you won't be disapointed.

350/5 speed was never a option from factory but it can be done and has been done. I have a old buddy whose running a built 350 with a stock 5 speed and it has held up for years and he beats the crap out of it. You can also build a 5 speed to hold some sort of power but you are still taking a chance. I'd do it, I was going to do it, I'd love a 350 with a 5 speed I say go for it!

I will be there. I won't have my car there though but I would be happy to talk about it. I would agree with some of the other guys. The t56 is an expensive option! with a lot of work and a lot of areas to fail. If you want to go this route you won't be disappointed, but it is a big overall investment. I waited a long time to get it and I had a very dead old TH200 I think... hard for me to even find what my old transmission was. I had to make a change and a spend some money. I was heading TH350, 700R4, or t56 (in that order of $$$). I decided to go all the way, saved money and did it. I will certainly agree that it is not for everyone and not for everyone with a 3rd gen. I wish I took more pics when i did the swap.

I will PM you with my cell number. Feel free to give me a ring. I probably will be there the first half of the day.

When the rear end's loose, the car's fast. Loose is fast, and on the edge you're out of control.
