3.43s? Do you mean 3.42s? Is your car a y87 car so it came with those gears? The v6 normally comes with 3.08s unless it is a y87 car.

    auto or manual car?

Goals with the car or future plans?

it will accerate quicker but yes you will loose MPG's b/c it will be reving higher all the time. however with a v6 i am pretty sure 4.10's will be way overkill and you will be better off with a 3.42

or even 3:72's would give you more boost with the v6

My old Camaro had a 5 speed and no Y87 package nd it came with 3.23s. I missed going 68 mph at only 2000 rpms!!! I think it was around 2500 at 90!!

Your gas milage in the city should go up if you drive the same in the city. On the Hwy... it will go down.

However if your put in 4:10 remember your odometer and speed will be inacurate.

Should you put in 4:10s? In my opnion no.

hence why I asked what trans.

and 4.10s are not overkill on a v6 depending on the setup.

but yes changing gears will lead to needing it tuned for them. With your 96 car, you would then need a 97 pcm as well to be able to tune it as the 96 pcm is not tuneable. A 97 pcm is a direct plug in play pcm

4.10's with a stick and you'll be doing it again.

If you do any gears a 3.73 in a stock 10 bolt is prime.

but do you plan on turboing the car in the future? Or staying NA?

Your future plans play a role in what gears to go with

3:73 is a great gear to go with, its one that you really cant go wrong with if you leave the car the way it is or even do some kind of mods to it. I really want to swap my rear out for a POSI disc rear end with 3:73 gears... I think you would be happy with those and you will notice a difference from you 3:42's

I would not go bigger than 3.73 at all. Like everyone else mentioned though it depends on your future plans for the car.

remember going 3.73s you are going to need to tune the pcm for it. Or your speedo will be off and rack up more miles than you really are. And shift points will be off

so you better start looking for a 97 pcm then if you are going that route
