My Posi died a few thousand miles ago. I bought a take out Auburn unit from someone on ls1tech who is near Detroit. He charged me about $100 shipped. I paid my mechanic about $200 to install it. So it was $300 total damage. So far so good with mine. If you are interested I can get you his contact information. He was very honest and even refunded me $5 as the shipping was cheaper than he thought it was going to be.

I'd save for a 12 bolt, never have to worry about it again, and they bolt in. That's what I'll be doing.

It really depends on what you plan to do with your car, how much power its making, and what you can afford. The more power your car has the quicker you will go through a posi or maybe a whole rear end. Personally I just couldn't afford $2000 + for a 12 bolt. If you have the ability. Alot of times you can just swap out for another used 10 bolt relatively cheap as well.

          I'd get a Ford 9".

          9" >>>>>>> 12 bolt

True, but only in extreme cases. For what most of us do and are going to make for power, the 12 bolt should hold up. Other problem is, I personally don't want anything ford related in my car.

Yeah I plan on going 12 bolt once mine braks or I get the money, especially since I'm already used to the H/C and it doesn't feel real special anymore, needs to be faster lol. I'd say if your gona stay bolt-on then get the auburn posi for cheap, if not then save for a 12 bolt if possible.

                Your loss.

Stubborness isnt going to get you far, there are a lot of great parts that arent chevy, believe it or not.

Maybe you would be more apt to use a Mopar 8 3/4" rear. Those are pretty beefy too.

I still making stock hp numbers, im just the type of guy that likes to break traction for the fun of it Until this rear end issue came up, im planning on doing longtubes and a hot cam. thats all the HP i want to make with the stock engine. Years down the road i want to build a 396, but thats way out of sight.

If thats the case a 12 bolt probably isn't going to be necessary for now. I'd go the cheaper route and just replace the unit. Here is the info from the guy I got mine from:

                      Dave
                      cdsccdsc@comcast.net

Email him and find out if he still has some for sale.

                      Good luck with it.

unfortunately i dont have the money to fix it right now I just bought headers and got my front end repainted - i cant spend any more on this car until im working again. Im just gonna have to restrain myself this summer.

i thought he was talking a eaton 12 bolt not just the posi for your 10 bolt...lol
i dont like the 10 bolt specially the 7.5 pos... but really if your not doing huge hole shots and banging into gears constantly with a cheep build like c clip elims, stong gear sets so on... you can handle alot of power right now i got a 12 bolt outta a old cutlass im trying to adapt to fit not sure how close it is to the f body size but its already setup with coil instead of leaf... just move the brackets and see how much a differance in overall length there is... i really dont feel like dumping the money into the rear end just yet i wish there was something cheeper on the market in the middle... even the 8.5 10 bolt would be a huge differance

and second, i have the auburn in my car. and it works pretty damn fine. when i had my 3.73's put in by the guy Scott at driveline solutions, he said that he hardly get's 10 bolts come in his way that already have the auburn's in 'em. he said they work really good. i don't know shit about rear-ends, but the guy scott who did mine sure as hell does so i trust his word. he has a 9 second spray'd 421 BB 3rd gen camaro! it's sick!
