Lol, go try again. That would mean that you have like a 1.875 rear end. I'm going to guess that you missed a revolution and over estimated a bit, and that in fact they are 2.73.

Lol, I don't know then, that was just my guess because a 2.73 gear is close to 2 3/4 turns of the driveshaft. Or the 7/8 that you said.

the factory tach is usually off by about 200-300rpm

90% of aftermarket gears are going to make noise.
My 3.73 gears make a little noise.
My Nephew just paid for a brand new rear end for his 72 Formula.
That has a 4.11 gear in it, that also makes noise.

I have a Richmond, and hes got an Eaton.

But if it didn't make noise, and now its making noise. 1st thing you do is check the gear lube in the rear end.
Its supposed to be changed every 25,000 miles.

                      then you have 2.73 gears.

                          sounds like a 3.23.
it should have 42 and another number stamped on the gear

I have aftermarket 3:73's and they've howled since I owned the car. Accel, Decel, steady speed.. Had em checked out, changed lube, everything was fine. Just noisy gears..
