No such thing as stock 3.73 gearing in an fbody, but maybe it is a different 10 bolt? Majority of the time gear whine is because the gears are improperly shimmed, therefore not lining up correctly. But this happens right after you install the gears, so I would have to say some sort of a bearing.Maybe the carrier bearings?

Yep, it will be very easy. If your car is a manual 6 speed, it has 3.42. If it is an auto, It either has 2.73 or 3.23 gears in it.

alright well i found that info, it states its a 3.23 gear. except i found a site that supposably tells you your gear by speed rpm and tire and it says 3.73 sooo im inclinded to think that it has been changed

if you dont trust your RPO codes you can always turn test it: put a mark on the tire and a mark on the driveshaft, the with the car on jacks see how many DS turns it takes to make 1 revolution of the wheel.

Chances are the RPO is correct though.

Also do not judge your gearing by the stock tach. The gauge cluster reads high on the RPMs, so you need a digital tach (or laptop) to determine that accurately.

Sounds like Angie's car. Rear end is stock, 3.8L v6 and her rear end has whined since it was new. We had someone open the rear end and look at it and there were tons of metal shavings all over from the axle bearings not being lined up if I remember correctly.
