question rear end howl/whin

at 45mph and up there is a small howl and whin comin from the rear end...i started to notice it after doin 125 for a while on the freeway. any ideas on what could be going? or is going to happen soon later or sometime. I have a stock 10 with 3.73 gears. any help will be much appreciated. thanks

does it howl only on accel or decel or does it not matter?

howls when accel and at a steady speed, i havent really paid attention to much to see if it does it during deccel

hmm, could be axle bearings, what does your diff fluid look like?

hmmm good question. ive never looked at it yet, it only has 66,000 miles on it. how long does rear end lube last for?

depends, I have seen it on gms where at 60,000 miles its totaly black, I have seen it also clean. But it also depends on how you drive your car, the harder you are on your car the faster stuff wears out.

I used to have a whining/howl, usually at around those speeds. Had the entire rear end replaced..Think the gears were shot.
