  • Anyone who has dropped a rear end inside please

WHAT do you do with the brake lines?? I have been demolishing these things for the past 3 hours. The T-intersection on the pig is rusted, the lines will not come out... and im not even 100% sure this is where i should be disconnecting them.

Do you WANT to take the breaks out with the rear? You can unbolt the T from the pumpkin, then bend up the tabs and pull off the break lines and unbolt the calipers. Hang them up on the car and pull the rear. If you're painting the rear you don't have to pull it to paint it. I painted mine in the car with the suspension at full droop.

thanks i figured it out and thats just what i ended up doing.

yea im painting it. I tried painting it under the car before and it was a PITA. Thing is, i also want to paint the undercarriage as much as possible too since it kinda needs it, and that is just too difficult with the rear under there.

here's the rusty POS 10 bolt in all its glory!!

10 bolt - 'tehn-bowlt' n - GM production rear axle for 160hp [maximum] S series minitrucks, however a moment of delinquency placed them in a 345 hp F-body. 10 bolts are easily confused with dead logs ande/or firewood, as they have similar strength and appearance properties. Unfortunately, 10 bolts are not flammable and therefore useless.

You did it the hard way. You unbolted the swaybar brackets instead of just removing the swaybar? Get some brake and parts cleaner and hose that thing down before you paint it. I had crap on mine and that made it cake to clean off before painting.

in my case it was the easy way. my swaybar links will NOT budge. I broke a wrench on them. removing the brackets was a piece of cake in comparison.

Was your car driven in the winter? I wouldn't think it would be that rusty if it wasn't. It looks like it has poly end links on it.

I know the car got driven for 3 months one winter when a previous owner's DD got totalled. Other than that it is "supposedly" winter free as it came from alabama originally. all depends how true the previous owners story was.

and yes it does have poly end links and bushings so someone had the sway bar off before at some point. Id like to know if its even the stock sway bar.
