                    Update

ok i just got home from shop i talked my teacher into letting me work on my own car during auto club, a club that meets after school on thursdays but normaly we can only work on our cars during class, but anyway i got the everything out didt realy come into any problems the only hard this was the two bolts on the top of the damn bell houseing. my clutch was pretty much a mirror it was so damn glazed. tomarrow im sending the flywheel out to resurface it it'll be back later the same day. then on tuesday, b/c im not back into shop tll then, i can put inthe new clutch and start ressambly. wow it soo much work just to get to it then it takes like 5 mins to put the new one in then u got to start putting it all back together. the only other thing im doing is put a new seal on the rear end were the driveshaft goes in and since i'll be taking it apart im gona also put on a new rear main seal. So far no borken blots no problems so "knock knock" i'll update as i get further

the fun part is yet to come if that tranny input shaft doesnt line right up with the clutch. (chances are it wont) get ready for some experience wrestling a tranny.

                        replacement clutch

A mechanic I know mentioned a Hayes Stinger clutch as being better than stock, and reasonably priced. Is this guy credible?

yeah lining that stuff up is tricky... i broke my brand new slave cylinder i had to "upgrade" to...so then i had to buy another one!.... oh and the rear pinion seal...watch out... that can mess up your gear lash if you just torque that nut on the crush seal with out check'n the lash. i had that replaced when the moron at the trans shop first put in my clutch...like a month later from the lash being off...my rear end blew!...so that's when i decided "F--- everyone else i'll do it on my own the right way" so that's when i replaced my clutch and did everything myself. had to get rear end re-built (3.73's went in ) and had my trans rebuilt by D&D perf.

anyways how is that clutch goin? and i hope your rear end doesn't mess up in a month or so from swapping that seal.

what are you talking about with this "lash?" would that be the source of my vibrating?

possibly...lash is the amount of "play" between your pinion and ring gear. when your rear end is put together brand new... the gears are where they are... they wear themselves into that spot. so when take the pinion nut off and replace that crush seal, and you just take an impact and put it back on...you will mess up that gear lash enough to make the gears not line up the way they did before. it's not a huge deal but because the gears are not lining up the same...they will "fail" much sooner than they should. when my gears blew...i was just cruising down I75 comin home from my friends school in midland. honestly goin like 75-80. nothing that is "stressful" on anything. and then all of a sudden i started to hear a gear whine...then it just got worse and worse. but the time i made it home...it sounded like i was dragging a boat ancre behind my car!

why would that have gotten messed with on a clutch install though? my car has 3.73s, and i can tell they were installed good. i have very little slack in the rear end, and no whine whatsoever practically - i have to concentrate on listening for it to notice it. i plan on unbolting the DS and rotating it 180 degrees and seeing if that helps.
