  • where to find axles

since i believe my axle is bad, whereabouts do i find replacements. the axle must be bad because after changing out bearings, the noise is still there and sometimes even seems louder.

what bearings did you replace? the wheel bearings? or the pinion, or?

is it gear whine? if so, that could be preload/lash issues with the diff.

if you are buyin a new diff, you want to stay stock or go to a 12bolt?

The Chevy Camaro was built with a single purpose in mind which it executes flawlessly...Going very very fast in a straight line until your hair catches on fire.

i only changed out the outside axle bearings, but forgot to pay attention to the axle. it sounds like its only coming from the passenger rear. i havent messed with the diff yet but would like to add some 3.73s.

              Do you have traction control?

Is there a brand of gears you prefer? Need the intall kit?

while were on the subject. 87 Trans am, 10 bolt, updated series 3 carrier, richmond 3.73 gear. (drum brakes & posi)

My buddy noticed my drivers side rear tire wobble a little bit.
So i took it into Discount tire, had them check for a bent rim. (I already had to replace one rim)
They said the rim and tire are fine.
I jacked the car up (with the tire still on) and noticed a very small wobble.
Next thought is my axel. For the love of GOD......I'm not sure how a 305 could bend an axel. I really dont beat on my car a lot. So buy a new axel? Buy 2 new axels? A buddy told me to buy moser axels it I plan on keeping the car.
Heres a twist though, I have a parts car 85 trans am (disc breakes) rear end (not posi) 10 bolt.
1st do I have to swap rear ends to take the disc brake set up, or will it bolt on if I take all my drum parts off? I know I will still need to swap axels then also.
If I have to swap whole rear ends, then I have to swap my new gears in.
I dont want to lose my 3.73 gear.

Or lastly......just say leave it as it is, because its really not that bad to begin with?

the problem comes down to swapping. I know there all the same. (10 bolt - 7.5, hell even the axels are the same length 30 5/16" (but different disc or drum))

Do I swap my gears into the 85 diff
Do I swap the axels and the disc brake set up onto my 87 diff
(hoping that the axels in the 85 rear end are good)
Do I buy 1 new axel or 2 new axels....if I go that route.

I'd Swap it all into the housing in the car. No need to remove the carrier then.
