  • Clattering and popping out of 3rd (4th sometimes)

Was at the track today, did 2 passes and my clutch got stuck down at the end of my runs for some reason. I had to physically pull the clutch pedal up.

I did one 1/8th mile run with no problem.

Did another 1/4 mile, slammed it in 3rd as usual and it missed the gear (i believe i had it in the right spot). Anyways, after that, on the ride home it clatters and pops out of 3rd unless i forcefully hold it in place. Occasionally it pops out of 4th as well.

Why was the clutch stuck down?

I did some searching and it sounds like the slider keys are worn out to make it pop out of gear. How can i be sure of this? I am a diy kind of guy so it looks like im gonna be pulling the trans and rebuilding that. Anything else i should do at the same time? Probably gonna change the clutch.

I think it may be possible that i bent the linkage or something, is that a possiblity and how do icheck for that?

you boiled the fluid in your clutch, that's why the pedal stuck to the ground. your 3rd-4th shift fork is bent more then likely. replace that with the steel fork from the viper box....syncro's are most likely bad as well.... time for a rebuild, it'll set ya back some $$ i think my rebuild was like $1200 or something from Walsh "D&D" but i needed a new input shaft and cluster....that was like $800 alone or something....

2002 already has the steel fork. You broke a slider key.
upgrade to the billet 3-4 keys.
I went through mine last summer and replaced 2 and 3 gear, 3-4 keys, 1/2 and 3-4 slider, and blocker rings
it will damage the slider, and syncro's if you keep driving it.
the clutch stuck due to boiling the fluid which is caused by a slipping clutch

the clutch on the other hand.... well I think its finally starting to be overcome by abuse after 22,000 agressive miles

$1000 for a 33 spline moser wasn't a bad deal. It came out of the OHIO boys car.
it seems to be working with the solid pinion spacer in it

Can i drive the car as long as i stay out of 3rd and 4th for the time being? I am working mon-weds 8am-8pm the next two weeks and thurs-sun im outta town.

So basically, few miles here and there in town. I will probably pull the trans next monday. Plan to rebuild it myself (bent fork and/or slider keys and check for other worn items), I will do the drill mod, and also get a textralia clutch.

I cant decide on whether or not to get a heavy or light flywheel, any input?

id just take the camaro for the time being dude. your sis can go without for a while

and the flywheel - i think you should go with stock if you want the best drivability with your cam.

yeah if it's acting up park it, when one gear fails it tends to take others eventually

you won't like driving with a light flywheel. I wouldn't drive it. I drove mine about 50 miles with a broken key and thats why I had to replace a few gears. The gears ate the broken key
