• amp question

i just got a old school rockford fosgate 800a 4ch amp and i bridged the rear 2 channels to my sub so there would be 400 watts to my 400w rockford sub, oh my god that pounded, it got hard to breath with it all the way up. but anyway i blew that sub the other day so i need a new one but i was wondering.. insted of getting a 500w sub could i get a 900- 1000w sub and somehow put all 800 watts to it with my 4 ch amp?

please excuse my spelling... i went to a cathlic school.

a four channel amp you could if u got a dvc or dual voice coil sub. 2 channels brigged to one side of dvc and other 2 bridged to other side. Should be at 2 ohms with a dvc 4 ohm sub. Could always check out rockfordfosgate.com they have wiring solutions for amp to sub configurations

I'd be more worried about hearing damage.

That is a very good very under rated amp keep the gains turned down and adjust them until you get clipping, clipping blows subs not watts 99.999% of the time (I have run 1000 real watts into a sub rated at 500 watts and it lasted 3 shows about 6 hours each before meltdown, and that is with almost constant bass going through it not like real music)

clipping is basically anything the amp and sub gets that is not part of the music (causes most distortion)
