i just got a old school rockford fosgate 800a 4ch amp and i bridged the rear 2 channels to my sub so there would be 400 watts to my 400w rockford sub, oh my god that pounded, it got hard to breath with it all the way up. but anyway i blew that sub the other day so i need a new one but i was wondering.. insted of getting a 500w sub could i get a 900- 1000w sub and somehow put all 800 watts to it with my 4 ch amp?

That is a very good very under rated amp keep the gains turned down and adjust them until you get clipping, clipping blows subs not watts 99.999% of the time (I have run 1000 real watts into a sub rated at 500 watts and it lasted 3 shows about 6 hours each before meltdown, and that is with almost constant bass going through it not like real music)

clipping is basically anything the amp and sub gets that is not part of the music (causes most distortion)
