  • I need new battery(ies)

Last time I went home and neither of my cars would start. I havent been home in months and yes, i should have a trickle charger, but i didn't get one this year so i may have to replace one or two batteries.

The z/28: It was freezing cold out, camaro wouldn't start, I jumped it, drove it a while shut it off and tried to turn it on, no luck. The car was running fine once jumped and i tested the alternator by stressing it with stereo and stuff and that seemed fine. So the camaro probably needs a new battery. Unless it just gets better when it's warm out

The T/A: I jumped it. Ran it about 15 mins in the driveway. Shut it off, and it turned on again so im guessing this battery is ok but we shall see.

Anyways, what is a decent battery for a good price for the camaro. Also, what is a fairly good battery for the t/a in case it needs one as well. Im trying not to spend money on the Z but I want to plan ahead just in case. If it needs a battery, it needs a battery.

I would get your batteries tested first I had trouble starting my car in super cold weather and it turned out to my starter solnoid was sticking. I had a optima but ended up replacing it because it went bad on me after about 2 1/2 years. Kinda pissed me off seeing as I bought it for about $140. This time I bought the biggest AC delco dual post I could find ( 1000CCA 1100CA) and crammed it into my battery compartment
( I had to do some re-engineering to make it fit though.)

The cold weather will make it hard for your battery to fully charge. I recommend trying to charge it in a heated garage. I've found it best to allow the battery to warm up over a day or two in a heated room then charge it. You may find that during the colder months its hard for the battery to hold a charge. but in the summer you might be fine. I took my T/A battery out and put it in my sonoma. The Sonoma battery has a lower cold cranking amp rating than the one in my bird. I plan on going with a light weight battery for the bird in the fall or an optima.

So?! I was going to get the yellow top, but the red matched so I went with that instead.

.... I use to swear by Sears Die-Hard Gold batteries,
Now I'm going to try Optima Yellow or one by " Remy " ,
about the same as Optima only some what cheaper in price ...

My red top saved my ass in my Sonoma Saturday. My alternator died while I was in downtown GR and I managed to make it the nearly 30 miles home from there on JUST the battery! Try that with a normal battery! It even had enough juice to fire it up the next day when I went to pull it in the garage to pull the alternator and replace it!

Optima's also help with some of your accesories too. I noticed a difference in the voltage my amp gets on an optima, versus a delco battery. Plus their spill proof, and have a good waranty.

I've been using the Ever-Start's from Walmart for years and had great luck with them. They're no Optima, but if you can't afford an Optima, I highly recommend it. And if you have a few extra bucks, get one of the big Yellow heavy duty ones.

I havent' decided what I'm going to get for the 80 this year, not sure that I really need an optima.

The Battery is the 99 Z believe it or not is the original Delco Battery!!! 8 years old, and just started it the other day after sitting for a month through all that cold weather. Cranked right up. Go Delco!!!!!
