I need new battery(ies)

After driving mine home with a dead alternator and starting it to pull it in the garage, I stuck a voltmeter on it just for fun. It still read over 12V with the truck off!!! I was amazed since while driving it it was showing in the 10-11 volt range on the gauge.

That's awesome. However, aren't you supposed to take factory gauge readings with a big grain of salt anyway?

I know the gauge is probably slightly off but normally it was right about on 14 when the alternator was working. With the new alternator it's over 14 about to 15 volts. The paperwork with the alternator said output voltage is between 14.4 and 15.1 volts with some variance possible. I was just amazed the battery wasn't slightly drained after that abuse.

My red top saved my ass in my Sonoma Saturday. My alternator died while I was in downtown GR and I managed to make it the nearly 30 miles home from there on JUST the battery! Try that with a normal battery! It even had enough juice to fire it up the next day when I went to pull it in the garage to pull the alternator and replace it!

Damn! Now that is impressive!

So?! I was going to get the yellow top, but the red matched so I went with that instead.

I need a new battery myself. My lights will dim in the summer with just my head lights and cd player on. It's dead right now, but jumpable.

i always buy the cheapest battery i can find that will fit and go with it. the one i have is still the same one from the v6 but i leave it on a trickle charge when its up for long periods.

if you don't start the car often and don't run a trickle charger get a deep cycle a standard battery typically is garbage after one complete discharge. I have the optoma yellow top and won't use anything else now

I run an Optima Yellow Top battery in my Monte Carlo, it's the only battery I've found that will start that Big Block reliably. I've had to jump it a few times, but those times were when I was starting either the big block Monte Carlo for the first time in a long time, or when I was trying to start the 390 Big Block F250 with the stock starter for the first time in several weeks/months. I usually use it to jump other cars, it's a powerful battery. Plus, it's safe in the even that something happens at the strip, I love my dry cell batteries. . . lol
