Alrighty then.... A little progress today. And a little yesterday. I have the floor and the trunk area covered in duct insulation. $80.00 friken dollars worth! I have enough left to do the doors inside behind the speakers, That'll have to do. If I need more Ill get more later.
So I finished up my amp rack tonight. I came up with a way to secure it with only one screw. Mine tucks in behind the T top trays @ the bottom, and the top has a ledge that has a hole cut out of it for the Latch to protrude through. On the latch mechanism bracket, there is a plastic push pin that holds the trunk cover in place. I took the push pin out and installed a nutzert/rivnut in the hole and use a screw to secure the rack with that. Solid! Here are a couple shots of the rack with the amps installed on it and the T tops in place in the storage rack just so I know they will fit. Pardon the mess.

I also managed to repair 2 power antennas today. Of course to one I put the new mast in doesn't work 100% correctly, it wont go down all the way. The one I put together out of junk yard parts is installed awaiting wiring, works perfect. Typical, the one I have $25.00 in is almost right, the free one works better than the new one, lol.
Here is a picture of a connector on the drivers side over the rear wheel well. Anyone know what this is for? I was thinking of pillaging it for the power wires for the antenna.

If I cant use this power source then I will use the power seat connector.
Tomorrow I am going to start pulling wire.Last edited by zeeman; January 10th, 2015, 11:16 PM.

Looks great!
Quick question: The rivnut, was that something you installed in the metal or the wood? If metal, where did you get the rivnuts and the tool to install them?

my amp is currently mounted on the top of the lump between the back seats and the trunk (i didnt put it there, dont want to talk about it). ive never liked the location, but never knew what else to do with it. this looks really clean. . . i may have to dig into that this summer.

Its like a threaded pop rivet. I put it in the bracket below the hatch latch. There is a plastic push pin that holds the trunk mat/cover. I removed that and popped it in there.Originally posted by birdie2000 View PostLooks great!

I bought a rivnut kit @ harbor freight. It comes with the gun and a selection of rivnuts. The hard part is getting the angle and location correct for the hole in the rack. I missed a little and had to convince things to line up, but it works.

Just keep in mind if you do relocate the amp you will have to rerun all the wiring and extend the power wires. That's a lot of work right there.Originally posted by MORNINGSTAR2101 View Postmy amp is currently mounted on the top of the lump between the back seats and the trunk (i didnt put it there, dont want to talk about it). ive never liked the location, but never knew what else to do with it. this looks really clean. . . i may have to dig into that this summer.

I have had a set back today that cost me a few hours and a small pile of cash. Turns out my HU is not the correct type to use with an amp. It doesn't have rca's (it does but only for the sub) So I thought I could just do a little creative wiring. Nope. no can do. Something would have gone, pfft! Had I done what I thought I was going to do. So, then I was going to go with a line out converter, but that got my OCD going. More wiring, more power tapping, more grounding, more money. Well thats not going to cut it either.
Nothing a new HU cant cure! Problem solved!!
I decided to go ahead with the new headliner idea that has been rolling around in my head. Finished that up this morning and installed it in the early afternoon before I got lost in the stereo vortex.
Came out pretty nice, I am getting better at wrapping these liners. At least I didn't destroy this one. Ill try to get a pic of it installed too before long. I am going to re cover the other one in the same gray I used on the amp rack, I'll probably rewrap the sub box in it too.
EDIT: I dumb thumbed something I have pictures in edit but trying to view them in the thread I have attachments, little help?Last edited by zeeman; January 11th, 2015, 07:17 PM.

Easily the best way to do it. I did secure mine to the car a bit differently though.Originally posted by MORNINGSTAR2101 View Postmy amp is currently mounted on the top of the lump between the back seats and the trunk (i didnt put it there, dont want to talk about it). ive never liked the location, but never knew what else to do with it. this looks really clean. . . i may have to dig into that this summer.
