The best thing is with the cargo cover flipped shut there's no way of knowing this thing is in there. It is totally concealed from people peeking in the windows. Additionally, T-toppers rejoice -- the T-top holder brackets are still 100% usable.

I wanted to keep the OEM head unit but upgrade to iPod capability. I discovered the iSimple device. Be warned: it does not work with all F-body head units. It didn’t work with my 1999 head unit (part number 09380152). It did, however, work perfectly with my 2001 head unit (part number 09390782). Even though both head units have the CD changer port in the back! Even my steering wheel remote controls work! Glory be! Shown below is the CD changer port you will need.

And here's the part number YOU DO NOT WANT!

The iSimple device is super simple. The 1st cable connects the box to your OEM head unit using the CD changer port. The 2nd cable connects the box to your iPod. Done. In the photo there’s cables your car won’t need. Initiation time might vary, but this thing was jamming my iPod to about 450 songs within seconds! The picture shown is from Crutchfield which is where I bought mine. I have always had good experiences with Crutchfield even if they aren’t always the cheapest.

I cleaned up the head unit and detailed the rest of the dash. I routed the iPod cable into the center console. Despite the width of the iPod cable connector I didn’t have to drill a single hole. As you can see in the photo everything looks stock or is concealed… until I crank up some Death Angel and let the neighbors know there’s serious wattage happening here!

Great thread. I'm about to jump into an audio installation myself. I also like the idea of stock appearance, and a clean well balanced audio system. The only change I'll be making is a double din head unit, but other than that - no one will know the difference.

Aaron are you using the HU speaker output to send the signal to the amp? Or is there an aux out?

I am NOT using the speaker-level outputs on the head unit. Although the JL Audio amp (and many high-level amps) allow it I've never been a big fan of speaker-level signals. I am using the PAC OEM-1 device which converts the signals into 4 RCA outputs. I orignally used this on my 2002 Z28 then salvaged it for use in the Warbird. In both situations the device worked amazingly well. Highly recommended.

If you have questions let me know. I'll tell you one thing, if you decide to drill any holes into sheet metal and/or the plastic door panels the ONLY way to go is with a Klein step drill bit! Made in USA and available at Home Depot. Do not be discouraged by the high price -- I bought both sizes and don't regret a single $ spent! I wish I bought these 15 years ago!

Damn, I may have to make a stop at China Depot.

These are by far one of the more amazing things I've purchased for fabrication. I got the cheap ones from Harbor Freight and they work well too. If they made one of these that was 3 feet long and could drill up to a 12" hole I would own it.
