ok i have 1 rockford fosgate 1000 watt P3 12" DVC 4ohm sub. i have a 2 channel pioneer 760 watt amp and the specs are: Peak Music Power - 760-Watts 4 Ohm 125 Watts x 2 Output Power 4 Ohm Bridged 380 Watts x 1 Output Power 2 Ohm 190 Watts x 2 Output Power 1 Watt into 4 Ohms 75 dBA Signal to Noise right now i have the amp bridged and the sub wired in parrallel i believe.this thing pulls a ton of power, i can even see my gauge dip when it hits. my power cable is not big enough i know and am replacing that this week. id like a capacitor but dont have the cash right now. i listen to everything and want it to sound good no matter what im playing and how loud its playing. to much to ask??? oh yeah the sub is mounted in a sealed box with a foot of air space which i think is correct for this sub. thanks

You did not mention what gauge power wire you are using I would run seperate power from the battry 10 gauge for the 750 amp and 8 gauge for the 1000 amp. also you definately need a cap on each line. Then the final thing you need to up your altenator to at least a 140 watt. stock on a v8 is 105 watt if I remember correctly. If you can't give the amp the power it need it don't matter how powerful the amp is it won't deliver.sigpic

should run 4 gauge wire for 1000 watts... I would recommend a cap, I bought mine off of www.sonicelectronix.com for $50! But what is your bottom line question, what way to wire your subs for best quality? Is your amp 1ohm stable or 2 ohm?sigpic

I can't remember cause I read so long ago, but reading over on Ls1tech in the car stereo forum, they have shown that there is no need for a capacitor. They do something called the "Big 3" mod. I believe it involves upgrading all power wires, but I'm not positive. Go look in that section. If I get some free time later I will research it some again.

Cap
a cap is ALWAYS a good idea unless you want to run a seperate battery for the system. It will reduce the wear and tear on your alt. It is a good idea to up your alt to if you can. Most of the cheaper caps dont work real well as compared to like a Rockford Digital 10. But that is correct a good amp is worthless if it dont have the proper power going to it.

I agree, cap's really are a good investment act like a band aid for your system and will protect your car. Here is a good site for wiring diagrams just plug in what you got and what you want and it will show you how to wire it.Originally posted by 68RS383 View Posta cap is ALWAYS a good idea unless you want to run a seperate battery for the system. thanks guys. main ? was is my wiring correct? i do need bigger power wire, so mike i may have to hook up with you and pick that up if possible and thanks. my power wire is only 8gauge i believe, but i was only pushing a DEI 300 watt amp before with no problems. the amp is only 2 ohm stable. thanks for the links and advice. a new bigger alternator and battery is one of the next things the car will be getting, along with a new power antenna.sigpic

just wanted to say thanks to mike k (mikek18) for hooking me up with a new power wire. havent gotten it installed yet (huge wire compared to what i had so running it from the front to the rear is a little more work) but it should be done this week along with getting my cutouts welded up.
thanks mike, i owe yousigpic

I Just ran 4awg for my system, It was pretty easy ran it along the passanger side with the factory wiring, I took a heat knife and shaved away a little of the foam in the rear pillar so it would fit properly. make a clean looking install when ziptied to the factory wiring.1998 Pontiac Trans Am LS1, Ram Air, White with custom Ghost Flames, Black Leather Interior, T-Tops, T56 Trans, 4.10 Rear End, Spohn Adjustable Torque Arm, Line Lock, Kooks Headers, Kooks ORY Pipe, SLP Loudmouth II catback, LS6 Intake, K&N Air filter, Centerforce Dual friction Clutch, Lowered and "Conklinized"
